Hi Guys,
well I managed to prang her over the weekend. It looks pretty bad, but may be able to revive her with a little help.
As far as I can make out at this stage, I\'ll pretty much need and whole rear axle, and all the bits and bobs that attach to it. I think the axle has shifted sidewards.
It\'s at the local Irish Mazda dealers and they are doing an estimate now (right)! They will send me pics of the underside which is where most the bad news is. I have already seen the lower wishbone and trailing arm are bent all out of shape.
Firstly, does anyone have a drawing of the rear (and front) suspension bits?
Secondly, does anyone know where I might be able to get my hands on all the bits I\'ll need?
In the meantime here\'s a few pic\'s....
If you look carefully the rear wheel isn\'t straight.
Basically I smacked into the kerb going backwards/sideways. Somehow I also managed to smack the front rim on said kerb.
I was thinking about getting some new wheels anyway!!
Ouch :(
id say best bet id to get in contact with Ross @ Dragon Performance as he may have the bits needed.
Check out

hmm doesn\'t look too bad but hard to tell without seeing the actual bent bits in question,
i bent & snapped a couple of bits on rear wheel in a similar although slightly more bent way (in bodywork terms i mean

lol) as per (http://img15.photobucket.com/albums/v44/scooby_si/snap.jpg) which as above Ross can supply easy enough for not too much £
presume yer not doing the insurance thing or are you as i guess if the shaft etc is mullered it may get more substancial.....?
Si (empathising)
Well, errr, no not doing the insurance thing.
can\'t say too much here, but I have a limited mileage policy......
Anyway, to change the subject, been onto that nice Ian at RX motors, and he can sort me out with most of the bits I\'m guessing I will need. So maybe life\'s not so bad!
Yeah the bodywork damage is pretty slight - no worries there. When I get some pic\'s of the underside, I\'ll post them.
I\'m pleased at least my rather "Bling" new side/indicator lenses came off unscathed!! ha ha
ps while I was at the Mazda garage, I went for a test drive in an nice new Red RX-8 - SWEET!!
Can anyone help me out with maybe a exploded view of the rear suspension components?
I can\'t find one anywhere. I\'ve trawled the post\'s as I remember seeing one recently.
Thanks in advance.
here\'s a quick copy of the image in the manual you can download from iluvmyrx7 site:
Si (wishes he found that b4 so he knew what bits he bust were....)
That\'s great scooby!
Thanks
Well the garage has been back to me and they reckon on...
new I-arm
new trailing link
new toe link
2 new shocks
also the body work repaired
New wheels/tyres
I\'m a bit surprised about the mechanical stuff - still waiting on the pic\'s, but I would of thought at least the upper control arm and possibly the rear subframe also would have to be replaced.
Time will tell I suppose.
if yer paying for it yerself i\'d be tempted to say get the bits second hand & checked out that they are all necessary as maybe i\'m sceptical but i always find dealers (http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/deal.gif) will want to get you buying as many bits as possible, maybe unnecessarily but equally not worth having iffy suspension so ignore my pesimism. Although there are some dealers giving discounts to MRC members if you fancied a bit of a discount on proper mazda goodies.....?
Si
in terms of you expecting more thou it was said to me i was lucky my wheel went to pieces so majorly as it took most the force rather than suspension so maybe similar for you, or maybe they were just telling me that to make me feel better about my nice new 8 piece split rims

lol
Si
Thanks, but I think Ross has sorted me out with all the bits I need now.
I\'ll actually be replacing more than the garage advised - just to be on the safe side. The bits should be on the boat heading to Ireland as we type(?).
Yeah I think the wheel took most of the force of the impact but the two control arms have definitely gone south.
I\'ll get the garage here to fit all the stuff, but as soon as I\'m back I\'ll take it to a specialist for a proper check.
Here\'s a few snaps of the bent bits....
t\'other one....
