Mazda Rotary Club

Here are the venues and dates for the trackdays I will be organising for club members in 2010. Get the dates in your diary now!  

I don’t expect the dates to change, but circumstances might arise later in the year which might force an unexpected amendment.  I’ll use this “core” thread to keep people informed of further general information on the Trackday Series and will open up individual threads, with links from here, when the time comes to start booking individual events.  

Please use this thread for any general trackday comments, questions, etc.

Noise levels is a question I frequently get asked!  It may vary slightly from circuit to circuit, but it’s likely to be 105dBA static test and 102dBA driveby at most venues. Again, I’ll post up details for each venue later.

But here’s the important bit............

DATES & VENUES

November: Wed 17th  Oulton Park - please note change of date from 24th November

December: Friday 3rd Brands Hatch[/INDENT]In addition, if there is enough interest, I may organise further opportunities as follows;

September:  Tuesday 28th Cadwell Park [/INDENT]

All events are planned to be full day and Open Pit Lane format, so you can go out when you like, for as much as you like (within reason, and within the safe limit of number of cars on circuit at one time).

For those of you who have been thinking about doing a trackday, but have never taken the plunge, why not sign up for one of these events? They’ll be plenty of pre-event advice on hand, plus friendly support and tuition available on the day.  You don’t need a race prepared car, just a road legal vehicle, driving license and helmet (which can be hired on the day for a reasonable charge).  There is little opportunity to enjoy our fabulous cars at high speeds on public roads these days, so a trackday is a fantastic opportunity to have some real fun.

Full members will have hopefully read “Rotary Revs” Issue 28 and will be aware the MRC is raising the profile of trackdays this year and encouraging people to come along not just to do track time, but to meet up with fellow rotary enthusiasts, socialise, and maybe take some passenger rides too.  There are clubhouse facilities that will be available to us at all venues, so even if the weather isn’t too great, there will be somewhere to sit in the warm and grab a coffee.  In addition, as many of us will be travelling a fair distance to these venues there will be an opportunity for staying at some reasonably priced accommodation nearby the night before.  Those arriving for as “spectators” are welcome to stay overnight, or arrive at any time throughout the day of the event. More details will be released on the individual event threads later.

A little warning that trackday prices are likely to be higher this year than last.  Trackdays are becoming more popular and there is a shortage of circuit days this year for various reasons (problems at Donnington and Croft for example).  We are again "partnering" with the great guys at "Mazda On Track" (MoT) to get the best prices we can this year, and it means at most venues the majority of cars are likely to be MX-5\'s, alongside our RX\'s. The events we attended in 2009 organised by MoT were excellent, with a great "club" atmosphere to the events. As an example, passenger rides were freely offered and taken between the MX and RX guys.

As ever, the MRC will be offering some discounts to fully paid up club members to help with the cost. Again, more details later on this.

Me too but the car has played there before. Need to sort out turbo problems first though!

As you can see Malcolm has now sorted out the dates and venues for our MRC 2010 Trackday Season which as promised is spread across the season giving four different venues,

As with MRC\'s policy this is open to any Rotary powered vehicle and these events are designed to be just as much social events as on-track events giving people the chance to come along and either, just meet other members of our Rotary community or take a ride with another member,

Biggest thing to remember about going on-track is that the car only goes as fast as you make it go, and even if you go at half the speed of other cars so long as your enjoying your day out then thats all that matters,


We are hoping that you will support these dates above as we are trying to make it where there is a little something for every one and as the season goes on we hope to evolve these events into a format for the future,

For instance if enough of you come along just to show your cars and we find lots of you are coming along just to do this, then we will think about a trophy to be picked by the attending people for the best rotary at the event, all of which will make this more of an event as there will be more to see.

Other trophys could be offered, for say the "most entertaining car of the day" or  "hard luck" story of the day etc, ideas please.

Back on track, we are hoping to attract racing Rotarys to these events through the season with Stacy Vickers and his formidable Gen 1 racer, Pete Barber plus a couple of FD in-the build at present proper racers all expressing interest to attend,

Incidentally Stacy is a qualified instructor and has very kindly offered his services to these events to you guys,

In keeping with MRC\'s way of enhancing club members ownership where ever possible, the club will be giving a subsidy of £20 to all MRC members who go on-track with their cars at each event ,

Remember we need you to support and commitment to the above to make it happen.

I\'ll be on holiday in June and will miss Cadwell, but I hope to make Mallory and Oulton, maybe Silverstone depending on the date.

I\'ve just started on this years new track car, but think last years will have to do for this year to,or i\'ll end up missig out,but then again last years car was gonna become this years drift toy decisions,decisions!

I\'m very likely to attend some of the dates as a driver/instructor and/or with race car(s: Mx5 or FD3S)

My instruction servies are serious & professional, infact Casey can you get in contact?

Never had Rexy on a track yet, but wanted to for some time. I will definately be up for at least one, if not two of these!

Advice on hand for a track newbie like myself will be greatly appreciated!! :)

I was so hoping to see Knockhill on the list... But I suppose it is a bit of a drive for most of you!
 
I\'d love to come along to a couple of these - just have to see what\'s feasible since I don\'t have a trailer / tow car and need to be able to drive the FD home afterwards...

haha oulton is a good 7 hr drive for me,with my track car on a trailer,castle combe is my closest and thats still 4 hrs on a trailer!

Just a quick question with regards to these days.  Are these purely Mazda only days?  I just ask as my brother is also looking to do his first track days this year, but is most likely going to be using a Skyline GTS-T.

^^Hi Mark, I will initially be only accepting bookings through the MRC forum for rotary powered vehicles. However, depending on the level of takeup, it\'s quite possible there will be some spare spaces to fill and I\'d welcome friends of rotary owners in that case. When the details for each venue are posted, plse put your brother\'s name on the list as a "reserve" and I\'ll take the reserves in the order thay are posted, once we know the rotary numbers and spaces that remain. Each venue will be have spaces for 40-60 cars, so there ought to be plenty of room for all who are interested, based on previous years\' numbers.

I\'ll like to bring the race car to mallory. Although I\'ve not renewed my ARDS instructor licence this year as busy with other work I can offer to provide some support on the other days (buddying, help with signing on, organising on the day etc) happy to offer instruction if neededbut normally the trackday organisers need a valid ARDS grade 2.  Would quote the post add myself above but using an iPhone which is a bitof a pain for editing!

As for the leak I have got replacement hoses but not fitted yet, the cold weathers been putting me off!

Just wondering how likely it is for the other 2 dates to be used? as I cannot do Cadwell in June :( (stupid work).

Just one thing I have noticed (and please excuse me if I am being dim here), but the Cadwell and Mallory dates are open for bookings via circuit-days.co.uk (http://www.circuit-days.co.uk/tracks.asp), and have already taken bookings for these 2 dates.  Am I missing something or just getting confused here?

^^^^ Mark, your observation is correct. Last year, Mazda on Track (MoT) booked DIRECTLY with the circuit owners to get exclusive days and the best prices. This year they had trouble getting ANY tracktime from some of the circuits we (and they) wanted during the popular summer period and MoT have been forced to buy an allocation through a "middle-man" TrackDay Operator who had already "bought" the tracks for the days in question. It does mean for two of the trackdays, Cadwell and Mallory, we will not have "exclusive, Mazda only" days, and we will be paying the same "Circuitday" price - higher than last year - before the MRC contribution (for FULL MRC members) . However, the reality is we have never managed to fill more than 20 of the typically 60 places on a trackday, so the other places would have to go to other people anyway.

It does mean your brother can go ahead and book now if he wishes!

BTW, once I get back from my day at Silverstone on Friday I will post up a separate thread on the forum to get the Cadwell booking underway. Keep an eye out at the weekend. I\'ll post a link in this thread.

I got your PM but i cant reply (not a member any more)  I took the stylus for a track day last weekend at woodbridge.  It was a bit of a shake down following a few tweaks.  Really good day and i managed to have a play with a well driven Caterham R500 and won which was a great feeling as it finally gave me a bench mark for my car.  

I would love to attend some of the trackdays but at the moment i have too much going on to be able to book anything,  we go on hols for 2 weeks on saturday and then move house a week after (hopefully) so its all a bit hectic.  Then in the summer i have a to build myself a nice (big) workshop at the end of the back garden.  

I will keep an eye on the posts and if i can and its not fully booked i will hop on one.

There is a heavy "early booking" discount on this event, just £91 before the MRC contribution - which is REALLY CHEAP for a full OPL trackday. This event has always been VERY popular, and with the heavy discount, places are going fast.

If you are certain you want to go to this, then I advise you to book up soon to avoid disappointment (I have!).

If there is nobody local to you then could buy one of these and get a friend to rev the engine to about 5.5k with the meter 1m away from the exhaust at an angle of about 45deg !
