Title: Anyone done the steam cleaning maintainance?
Post by: m1tch on February 12, 2010, 10:20:28 PM
Hi all,

Just wondering how many people have done this:

I know its like what happens with WI lol but a bit more extreme!

hmm.

i think i\'d rather just buy a WI kit. what happens if you let too much water in by accident/inexperience? i\'d rather not test whether my engine can hydrolock or not.

It gets sucked through a vacuum tube so you cant get a whole gallon in there at once!
I wouldnt be worried about locking up the engine, just make sure you keep the car running and go for a blast afterwards to make sure all the waters gone.

This doesnt do anything for compression, just cleans right?

Its the atf trick that helps a low comp engine just dont leave it in too long.

I\'m guessing that\'s to do with Carbon lock - the ATF eating at the carbon buildup around the seal\'s / springs to free them again and help seal the engine.

Here\'s a good read about the atf trick.

Another good read about water treatment instead of atf.

hehe this would be fun too!! :evillaugh

"Yep water works great. Some people even hook a hose up to their washer fluid reservoir; so they can squirt water into the engine with a flick of a lever. Also makes for a great James Bond smokescreen for pesky tailgaters."

That\'s the scuzziest, most low rent WI I\'ve ever heard of :D love it :Giggle

Except for the vacuum/pressure being applied at the line to the washer bottle pump...
