Title: First trackday booked (noise)
Post by: DR SCHNITZEL on February 06, 2010, 12:25:14 AM
Now then all, i have booked  a trackday for sat 6th march at anglesey if anyones else is going ill see you there.

I was wondering if i put the standard cat back on the car will it reduce noise enough to pass the 105 dcb MY fd is probably the loudest car on the wirral at the moment, and what about he screamer pipe?

Anyone got some track specific advice here as ive never been:wiggle cant wait

Hi there, I havn\'t done a track day but I know if you have a screamer pipe you won\'t be allowed on, which is why Liam has got his screamer pipe plumbed back into the rest of the exhaust as I will have for mine, I have seen another FC bolt on an extra silencer just onto the screamer pipe instead of plumbing it in.

Once you get that sorted, then the answer to your other question is yes the cat will help with noise (people don\'t seem to remember that the cat also acts as a secondary midbox) but what system do you have on at the moment?

That\'s bobbins - it totally depends on the track - some do flyby noise testing, some don\'t. If they don\'t and just do a static test, you\'ll be fine.

Saying your car is \'the loudest on the wirral\' is no help at all dude - what turbo, porting, and exhaust system components are you running?

And the 104dBa - is that static, or flyby, and how is it measured? IIRC my other half\'s car was never tested static at Anglesey, so you will probably have issues.

Do tracks allow you to use aluminium Wheel nuts???  I know some places frown on it.

Anglesey is an awesome track.  You will love it, however, you will not be allowed on with a screamer pipe at all.  Plumb it back in and get cat on and you\'ll be fine.

You didnt have the loudest FD in wirral when I visited my relatives in port sunlight the other day! ;)

105 dB is REALLY loud if that\'s a trackside reading. If it\'s static it\'s still pretty loud but easily passable with am RX.

I\'ve never heard of track days being funny about cars using screamer pipes. In racing they\'re not allowed, but of course MSA (vehicle) regulations don\'t apply to track days.

Can I ask which track day company have you booked with and have you thought about booking any instruction? I\'m a full-time track day instructor, ARDS certified, very familiar with both Anglesey and RX7\'s and ready to go if required.

You can only put the cat back on if you still have all the air pump assembly other wise its gonna get some serious problems, someone please correct me if im wrong but I got warned against it big time !!

105 db, I got 118.9 db on 3500rpm static at Japshow ooops neighbors love me (not) :@

At the mo i have a 3" long screamer pipe, no porting, kakimoto mid and a hks back. I think ill phone em and see whats what as theres quite a bit of differning info on here. No silencers to speak of

I dont really want to plumb the screamer back in but if i have to i have to.

Also ive neaver heard about aluminium wheel nut thing. ill ask em about that.

I would recommend getting yourself a meter. You never really know just how loud it is ! I got one from maplin when they where on sale. Not expensive now.

Ive been told there is an application on the i phone for that too, not sure of accuracy though.

I have just spoke to anglsey track, I asked him if screamer pipes were allowed he said "whats a screamer pipe" i told him, he said that it didnt sound good,

If my car makes too much noise it will be pulled in for a static test. but my wg wont be open so it will then pass? i dont get it.

I best i plumb it back in and get a midpipe to be safe
