Has anyone fitted the above mirrors on their rex & got rid of the cricket bats hanging off the doors?
Are they powered?
Lenses ok for uk,should be if u get mirrors from OZ?

i have them on my car, they are electric and were fitted in the US and OZ, i imported 2 sets when i was putting my car together (i sold the other set on) you need the ones from Oz as the US ones are made for L/H drive, they dont fold in like the standard ones so bear that in mind

My mirrors are faded on the backs and look a bit scabby.
I tried getting one off once, those cross head screws are real tight.
Probably get another 5mpg with those mirrors fitted.

yes defo give you another 5mph! i think i got mine off the Ausrotary site obviously they are stock there so you shouldn\'t have a problem getting some, they may be some more pictures in my thread build up, i brough 2 sets from the same guy just incase a glass got broken

Mazda designed the FB beautifully,then they must have rummaged through their parts bin for europe & said these will do.
You could tow caravans with our mirrors,they\'re so large you would,nt need extenders to see what ur towing!

Found some of these mirrors on ausrotary $30 each,G8,!!,but he aint interested in posting to uk.
They are leccy,mounting holes in same position,so no drilling.

Found out prices for the mirrors,you\'d really have to hate the stock ones to buy them,but i do!

These are leccy & bolt straight on,no drilling & bring the 0 > 60 sprint down to a remarkable 4 seconds without the stock air brakes hanging off the doors!
Mazdatrix in US do them as well @ $189.12 each,don\'t know if that inc vat,but there\'d be shipping & import duty on top of that.
Just finding out if the lenses are any different on US mirrors to those in OZ.

That\'s what i\'m trying to find out.
The mirror housings \'look\' the same,but i\'ve no idea about the lenses.
It\'s possible both the housings & lenses are different,US verses OZ.
Problem is i\'ve only got US part nos for mirrors so i\'ve asked mazda if there\'s any difference as once parts ordered,NO REFUND if there wrong[back ordered parts]
I ordered wiper arms from mazdatrix for my 79 s1 i sold,they didnt fit,the arms are bent,handed differently,i got caught out on them!Went in the bin.
I\'ve given mazda uk the US part nos,a picture & asked them to source those mirrors but for OZ spec,so they\'ll be ok on our roads!

the arms are different you have to use Oz one\'s if you want to actualy use them!

in the parts catalogue you sent me, it shows the arms available as a separate part... if the bodies are the same and the lenses are flat, wouldn\'t you just be able to buy the arms to the Aussie spec?
I can understand the arms being different to give the mirrors the correct angle, depending where the driver was sitting but surely the bodies must be the same.
If all the electrics are in the bodies, the arms should be quite a bit cheaper.
There\'s a plentiful supply of these mirrors in the US if you could get the arms.

i\'m trying to remember now, im pretty sure they come in 3 parts, not sure about the interchangability with the US, i didnt have too much trouble getting them from Oz just say you accept liablity if they get broken and get 2 sets

Given up trying to get new ones from mazda UK,explained to em countless times the mirrors i need are in oz & not fitted on uk models.
They keep coming back,give us ur vin/chassis no & we\'ll get the correct mirrors for your uk registered car,G8,so i\'d end up with brand new cricket bats hanging off the doors which i\'m trying to get rid of!
I\'ve given them pics & asked them to contact mazda dealers in OZ for the mirrors,but oh no,can\'t do that,everything has to go through mazda uk,give us ur vin/chassis nos,argh!

Ian,i\'ll keep an eye on those on oz ebay,the guy on ausrotary still has\'nt come back to me with a price yet,usual story a friend of a friends car,blah,blah.
25 year old mirrors will need respraying so i know a good bodyshop[sprayed my cobra],who will do a good job on them,better than i could do with a rattle can!
Probably get some windscreen trim done as well,in some parts the black paints worn off[trim above doors on roof & 2 trims either side of the screen].

I thought about buying them but when I emailed him, you\'d already bought the 1st pair. Luckily, he\'d got a pair on the other car and they were ok so I got him to list them and I had those, see the note at the bottom of the auction.
I didn\'t know if they were being shipped air or surface which I why I asked you if you\'d had yours.
I emailed Sonny on Tuesday who said they\'d gone surface, 3 to 4 weeks and then, they landed yesterday but the mail wouldn\'t leave them \'cause I got stung for vat and a handling charge this end. Had to go to the sorting office and pay another £17.98. A bit annoying but even at a ton, these mirrors are a real bargain.
To put your mind at rest, I think he sent both sets out the same time so yours should be landing anytime now and he\'s been as good as his word, these mirrors are spot on. He described them as 10/10 and they are.
That\'s g8 u got yours off the same guy,so it looks like he\'s reliable then.
VAT,i did,nt think would be charged as there 2nd hand,not new goods,thieving gits!
Still can\'t moan for £100 from OZ.

If it had been a value over £135 I\'d have been done for import duty as well!
These were process by customs on 26.02.10 and have only just come out to me. Your parcel is probably stuck in some customs warehouse somewhere waiting for some bureaucrat to deal with it.

The mirror arm is painted satin black, the plastic case of the mirror is unpainted although I\'ll probably do mine in Mazda sparkling black to match the car.

They take the stated value on the Aussie customs form, convert it into GBP and then charge vat on this amount @ 17.5%

yeah, they shoved a card through my door saying that they couldn\'t leave the parcel cause there was duty to pay.
I live out in the sticks and my postman comes in the van and will usually just leave parcels for me in the greenhouse, even if they need a signature which saves me loads of hassle having to collect myself or rearrange delivery.
Once there\'s duty to pay though, you have to sort it yourself at the sorting office.

Well my mirrors finally turned up today,months after i\'d paid for them,thought i\'d been had,as Ian got his a looooooong time ago.

To be honest i did\'nt look at the shipping date,i was too concerned about funnel web spiders lurking in the box!
Mirrors are good nick,casing not chipped & glass 100%,so they just need spraying black.
He has\'nt left me any feedback,but he was close to getting some feedback from me!
I could,nt really lodge an appeal against him on ebay as paypal gives you only 45 days from payment to lodge an appeal,he swore he\'d sent them same time as yours,then there was the uk postal strike,so i\'d resigned myself to being stung,but hey they finally turned up.
I\'ve offered them up against the standard cricket bat mirrors & their a vast improvement & will look sleek & add to the cars appearance,rather than ruin it!

It\'ll take me a long time to fit them as i\'m in & out of uk working abroad,got stuck in poland due to volcano,made my own way back,took 19 hours by various trains to get back!& don\'t ask about the expense of that!

How did u spray yours,did u primer,then black paint on top or just apply the black paint with no primer?
What colour black did u use satin or matt?
My gaskets are split,so i\'ll need to source new ones,were yours alright or did u make/get new gaskets?

My were in great condition and I didn\'t need to spray them. If I was going to though, I\'d use plastic primer on the backs and satin on top of that.
I only got 1 gasket with the morrors and I lost that while I was waiting to fit them. I made 2 out of some self adhesive foam sheet ( the kind that doesn\'t retain water)
I have a couple of the rubber mirror bases - prob not in great condition, but they should clean up...if they\'re any use to you?

I did mine on my red car with satin black out of a rattle can and it looked factory... you honestly couldn\'t tell the difference.
I rubbed them down, etched primed them, again out of an aerosol and then top coated them. If you just use ordinary primer though, it\'ll just peel off.
Also, if you mask up carefully, you don\'t need to remove the trims and risk breaking those delicate clips

You\'re on the mark with this Ian - this is the basis for powder coating, there must a charge there, otherwise the powder particulates cannot bond to the substrate material and it just falls off. Also will not bond to rubbery bits.
