Title: fitting lowering springs
Post by: steevo on May 09, 2004, 06:35:39 PM
Hi all,
Does anyone know where i can find some tech info on removal of front suspension struts for the FD.
Tried to fit some racing beat springs today and had a bit of a nightmare. The rears were ok to fit but didn\'t lower the car at all,in fact it\'s about 10mm higher now.Must be something wrong there then.
Then had a go at the fronts and couldn\'t even manage to remove the strut assembly from the car which is now wedged in a really awkward position.
Anyone got any ideas.........Also where can i get a decent workshop manual.......cheers....STEVE.

Hi M8,

I did this last week was a bit trcky but once you know how to do it the otherside can be done in under an hour, check here for the user manual:

1994 Workshop Manual (http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/1994_factory_service_manual.htm)

(this is for a 1994 one, but you can just delelte some of the link and find your model)

Get all the pipes etc out of the way, remove the two long bolts on the upper wishbone, undo the bottom strut bolt and take it out and also the balljoint behind it as this clamps the bottom wishbone together holding the strut tightly in place otherwise. Then remove the top cap nuts (3 plus the one holding the rubber on the centre). Pull the top wishbone out and twist it 90 degrees, pull the strut out from the bottom by pushing towards you and down slightly. then shake it about until it comes loose and pull it free. Basically just play with it a little;).

Hope this helps, Paul:)

Cheers Paul thats a massive help mate, should be abe to sort it out now.
I see the pics of your car on the Teins, appears to be quite high on the rear just like my racing beat ones.Have they bedded in now or is that the final ride height.

No probs:D

Yeah mine is still quite high m8, but I haven\'t driven the car more than 1 mile since doing it so may bed down a little, but not a lot:(  I may check with a few companies to see if they can make me a set for the rear with a similar poundage but with a bigger drop. I\'ll let you know how I get on.

Good luck, Paul:)

Surprised that you aren\'t getting more drop with the Racing Beat\'s on the back, even with my Koni\'s on the top perch, they are still damned low!

Errr springs on the \'7 aren\'t like those on the \'5 where the larger ones go at the front not the back ?

You sure you got them on the right way round ?

Strange....

This is mine on Racing Beat Springs, as high as the car will go on the shocks.

I\'ve got the RZ Bilsteins and am looking at putting 18\'s on, what lowering springs can I put on (or you\'d recommend e.g. Ebach/Tein etc..) to get the wheels really tight up in the arches? I\'ll have the arches flarred and probably pull out the inner mud guards too.

Cheers

Ben

Max is that with the Konis on the highest perch?

Which springs work best with Koni - Eibach/Tein or Racing beat?

Who does the best price for this little lot?

Other than stock setup, I have no experience of setups other than my current Koni / Racing beat. I am very happy with it! Yes the Koni\'s on highest perch.
