i\'m guessing it might be for abs or cruise control?
its just clipped onto the side of the ecu.
thanks

not 100% sure - but they all have them !! LOL :D
lol, mine didnt :(
mine doesnt either only seen them on some jdm ecu\'s??
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - could just be on the JDM then
have the UK FC\'s got the wiring for them ?
when i swapped out my JDM ecu for a UK one - i just bolted that back on the side and plugged it in
I dont believe they do, could be wrong but im sure there is no spare connectors around that area?
Does yours plug into the main harness that the ecu plugs into?
Im going to have a gander while its still light.:)
yeah i think there is an extra plug for it .. like you say though - no idea what the hell it does !! LOL
i dont think my jdm fc had a plug for it.
couldnt see very well by the time i found my keys but i only found one spare connector and its a good distance from the ecu.

ew, nice rust lol
i should of mention the black \'thing\' is male connector and has 2 rows of pins. top row has 4 flat wide pins and bottom row has 3 wide flat pins.
It seems a mystery, had a look on rx7club and they also have no real clue what it does, a few wild theorys though...jdm speed limiter? black box of death or some sort of relay, i like black box of death!:rollin

I don\'t have it on the UK cab.
I know what it isn\'t:
EC-AT - for Automatic transmisson cars - that lives on the passenger side wall above the ECU\'s.
ABS ECU - that is the bigge long box that\'s thinner than the main ECU - but the same length - has the big connector on the side.
Power Steering CPU - not sure where that is - but it\'s not that.
AAS - the automatic suspension adjust system on some US cars - I\'ve some of the wiring for that - and the ECU for it lives in the boot area.
I guess to really know what it is, you\'d have to work out where it\'s connected to.
so its got to be for the jap cars only, what do they have that euro and a spec cars dont? :xconfused
i dont remember another \'spare\' wire near the ecu in my TII.
maybe pete would know as he\'s re-worked his engine loom?
i\'m guessing its a 5 pin relay from reading other posts on rx7club. maybe its for the pre-amp?
anyone running the stock audio?
i think if it was audio related it would be on all ecu\'s:3Confused
hummm if thats the pre-amp ( IF ) then it might only be in convertables - as they came with the fancy speakers in the seats
I have a JDM TII and I have never seen one of those on my ecu :3Confused
Looking at the factory (US) wiring diagram for the 1987 FC,, the only thing in that area is what Mazda calls an "Atmospheric Pressure Sensor" But it only has a 4 plug connector.
Now the "Knock Control Unit". It has a 7 wire connector and it\'s right next to that. Not giving a good view of the part though.
To my certain knowledge no UK spec car has one, or the facility to have one. I\'ve had one on the side of every JDM ecu i\'ve purchased though. I did open one up about 5 years and there\'s nothing clever in there that makes me believe it\'s any sort of controller etc... Can\'t really remember now.
IIRC the (earlier >88) uk egi\'s have the dim/dip relay located above the ECU on a sub plate beneath the glove box, so might be something like that.
Only found on the JDM car and does nothing. I have had these plugged in or left unplugged and they seem to do nothing. I thought it was something to do with air con as the ECU needs to know when its on for the fans. Its nothing to do with audio or atmosperic pressure.
In fact it is the coolant control module so my guess it is to do with AC as this was on all JDM cars and maybe only a option on UK cars. I dont think I have even seen a UK car with aircon. On my FC I have kept the small AC fan as a backup to my main rad electric one as this will still come on above certain temps or when I press my AC switch. (even though I have ripped out the aircon).
AC was an option on the UK cars - when i bought my black TII - the owner said that when he bought it - it was an option he could have had
my Cab has AC - so thats prob why i have that box of tricks
I have only seen these on JDM chipped ecus, so it might possibly be a built in FCD? Also the N374 ECU is the knightsports on that has no rev limiter on it, so it could be something to do with that?
I thought the N374 was just a stock JDM ecu ?

I\'ll quote myself as this is the coolant control module for the electric fan.
Ive been wondering what that was when i got my redom ecu of liam,
