Title: exhaust paste
Post by: jackaleks on January 24, 2010, 04:05:37 PM
will i have any problems if i use this between the exhaust gaskets and the turbo pack? or would something like assemby grease be better?

i just need something that\'s a bit sticky so i can line the gaskets up with the holes before i put the studs back in (the studs came out with the nuts on, so i can\'t go studs>gaskets>turbo pack).

Personally I\'d be tempted to replace the old studs and nuts.

copper grease is ok, holds the gaskets well and burns of harmlessly, will smell for a few mins while burns off but not for long. exhaust paste may brake up when hard and the lumps can cause problems if they go astray.  jon.

this was plan b, but the threads on my ones are perfect, no rust or corrosion at all.

mmm, that\'s what i was worried about. i can\'t be doing with taking all this lot off again because the paste cracks and starts leaking!

cheers guys.

If your going for the new studs route.... shop around as some places want stupid money for them... something like £10 each, but I managed to get a full set for £4 I think it was! so at that price it\'s probably cheaper to get new studs instead of grease or paste to hold the gasket!

Jono

do you remember where you got your studs from?

trying to re-use old studs was really stupid, it\'s nigh on impossible to line up everything and then push the studs through the turbos and gaskets before tightening them up, and i\'ve just spent an hour shredding threads trying to get the nuts off.
