Title: High performance inlet manifolds ???
Post by: 600gaz on January 23, 2010, 10:32:12 PM
Anyone tried an aftermarket tubular inlet manifold and plenuim chamber on their turbo engine then ? Also is there such a thing available for rotary engines and if so where from ? Cheers .

Very interested to know the answer to this also in my searches i haven\'t seen any that are not custom one offs

there you go, proving to be pretty popular all over the world at the moment.

havent seen any back to back tests as of yet, but theres a guy in sweden who did 595whp on a stock inlet and will be dynoing again with this one so should give a decent comparison

Must read post better!

You are running a turbo engine

This 862bhp FC is running OEM intake runners :)

What is your reasoning for wanting to change the inlet manifold?  The stock upper inlet manifold is a good design...we have changed the lower inlet to give a better flow and to equal the tube lengths.

If you are wanting more flow, check out the RE-A 13B runners, but like AtomicRex said, the stock inlet manifold is a pretty good design, Mazda would have spent quite a bit on designing it!

Oh and if you do decide to go custom, make sure that you have those small injector plates in the intake manifold as they help a lot with atomisation :) hence they are there :rollin

The smaller intake wouldn\'t be a great idea for a road car.  You need the length of the intake tubes to increase torque and power at lower rpms.  Yes running those on drag cars will benefit at higher rpms....so would be applicable.

Well most standard stuff on cars is crap so i presume the Mazda one is the same maybe ???? Turbos force air through anything so even a crap flowing inlet manifold will still give good results if the turbos blowing hard enough . Fitting a larger smoother flowing bend radius to a ported engine must help surley so i was wondering if anyone had tried it . Also most other tuned turbo engines have a large plenium chamber before the intake runners and this always makes more power over a certain boost level so i was wondering if anyone had tried this before i do ???

Ok thanks for that .

bit of a contested point, really. you can argue that a \'rough\', i.e. unfinished casting, inlet will help create turbulence as the charge enters the combustion chamber, which i\'m told is a good thing :)

to be honest, there are a load of things to spend money on before thinking about the size and finish of intake runners, especially as the difference on a turbo\'d car is so small.

Pretty sure Gary @ RotaryArt has some of those rather special items show in that link! ;)

This look rather sexy:
