Title: anyway to prove rebuild
Post by: 666rex on January 23, 2010, 01:34:10 PM
:3Confusedhello guys n gals, bought my first rex back in october, having read up on them i relised i had to have one that had been just rebuilt, well the one i bought had just had £5000 rebuild with large streetport, it came with all reciets and paperwork, two folders of the stuff, now its come to light that my brother and his pals used one of the folders to warm their hands and sure enough i\'ve lost any evidence of the work being done, as for the car it runs like a dream, has\'nt used any oil or coolent since bought, checked every weekend, starts hot and cold no worries, is there a way of knowing if rebuild has been done, any advice welcome guys, cheers.

Hi mate, get a compression test done. This will show if its in good nick or not. A full diagnostics check aswell as a dyno run will also help, they are not expensive.

it was done by matt griffin from rx motors and the reciet was all written and garage stamped, think it was done on the side.

Was the engine fully run in when you got it then? perhaps give rx motors a call as they might have records of what was done?

I would just get a compression test done, if its close to 8 on both rotors then yes it has been rebuilt :)

Mazda can do a compression test, but its not cheap as its Mazda doing the test lol check with different tuners, I got rotecniks to do mine, but most rotary tuners will have a rotary compression tester.

A compression test would be a good indication of state of engine wear.

7.0 - 8.5 is a very decent engine

6.0 - 7.0 - Average condition with good life left

5.0 - 6.0 - time to consider saving for a rebuild.

Just a quick guide :Laugh

Also, you need to make sure that the reading from the front and rear rotors aren\'t too far out and are balanced, my compression test on my fc3s, 88k on the clock, that I have taken drag racing has compressions of between 6.5 and 7.0 on all rotor faces :)

My 86k turbo II engine got compressions of 6.9,6.9,6.9 on the rear, 7.2,7.2,7.4 on the front, so try and compare yours with that as mines done quite a few miles and done drag racing :)

have a look at the sump, (bottom of the engine) if you can see sealent where it joins the engine chances are its been done, not much other reason to take the sump off, and most builders use the grey goo as the sump gaskets from Maz alone are pretty gash, as original Maz dont use the goo.

this wont guarentee it, but may help...

thanks rmaj, had car up on ramps yesterday and your right, the sump has deffo been off recently, fresh sealent everywhere also rear diff looks like its been uprated and so clean underneath. still stuck for mot tho as the car has 4" turbo back exhaust system and i\'ve got high emissions, also the car set to run lean, any tricks for mot time guys, cheers nick.
