Title: Rear Window Seal
Post by: Gatesy on January 17, 2010, 06:24:26 PM
Hi Guys,
Took my FD out for a blast today for the first time in about 2 months and noticed that I had about 2 inches of water in the boot and when I opened it up water was pouring out of where the struts go up into.
I\'ve emailed MRP but just in case they can\'t get them for me does anyone know anyone other than Newera (they haven\'t got them listed and they are stupid money if I remember correctly) I can get one off?

Not sure where to get replacement seals except rotaryart

I\'m interested in this thread as I get a similar issue but it only happens when I open the boot after rain.  It seems to collect in the rear hatch weather strip where the ends meet and then empties upon opening.

Where are your joins in the seals?  Do new seals come molded to shape or could you move the ends of the seal to somewhere that will not collect water?

i have the same problem, when i park on the slightist of slopes i can see water coming in through the boot, and then when i open the boot water pours out on to the rear seats on the passenger side. Its really annoying when you have just spent the bst part of the afternoon cleaning the thing!

yep - another FD owner that suffers with this, almost identical scenario to the first post! Gonna have to find somewhere to store her rather than outside! Then hopefully wont\' have to worry so much about the water! ;)

Opening the boot after a rainy day, it pours out between the boot trim/struts

Wasnt too sure what the best way to fix it was...

i get this aswell but have heard that the rear wiper can leak where the seal gets old and this puts the water straight behind the interior plastics. not sure if this is the case with you but i suppose it wont hurt to check.

water pouring into the car when you open the hatch it just a design fault they all do it just runs off the edges of the tail gate and into the plastic qtrs .

I may take you up on that mate.  I\'m going to try my local friendly garage and see what they suggest after I take all the cowling off of the boot and see if there\'s any clear gaps I can seal.

would you say this is the main place where moisture gets into FDs?

what about door seals? how much can you get them from and where?
