Title: New girl to the forum :-)
Post by: Nell on January 13, 2010, 11:30:51 PM
Hi all :)

I am new to this forum, and to RX-7\'s.  I have owned 7 Supra\'s up until now (in a short space of time!)  My last which I still have (goes on Sat :()  is pictured below, a GZ TT BPU+ Supra Aero top, which is super rare and took me ages to find, I bought it stock and modified/tuned it myself, unfortunately I have to sell it, as I need the money (I got 10k for it)

This pic I took above, is on the front of the 2010 mkivsupra owners club calandar too :Tongue1

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=2734

So I will be very very sad to see her drive away on Saturday (I\'m dreading it lol)  Then I go on (hopefully) to buy an RX7, from a member on here (Frankie) otherwise I have a couple others lined up to view on the weekend.  Insurance works out a lot cheaper on the RX7 too which is good, however I\'ve heard fuel consumption is terrible :D

I have looked around for my local RX specialist, which is appears to be \'Super 7\', Worthing way, any good?

I have loads of questions, but I\'ll do some searching before I start posting threads you\'ve seen 50 times before :D  One question however, is I want some C-West or Re-Amemiya headlights to replace the stock headlights, I\'ve had a quick look on Google, and they\'re coming up at over 1000$!  Is there a trader that makes good replicas or something, or is it a case of sitting on the Parts For Sale section 24/7 for a second hand pair :D

I hope to come to some local meets in the future and meet some of you ;)

Hey, Nell, welcome to the club proper. I think I complimented your rather lovely Aerotop Supra before when you did your first thread on here, must be a blow to see that beauty go. Still, never mind, once you get into an FD you\'ll forget all about boat-like Supra handling :D...

I\'d give a massive thumbs-up to Super 7, Jason has helped me out of so many problems with my Rex I\'ve lost count! They\'re great guys and really know their stuff. It may be worth asking J there about getting a Rex, it\'s not unknown for him to deal a few cars himself and they\'re usually pretty top quality. He sourced the shell on mine for me when I wrote the last one off.

As to lights, Laeeq makes some R-Magic and Amemiya replicas, but he doesn\'t post on here often nowadays, you may need to search him out on FD:UK. Failing that, they come up from time to time, generally about 500 quid or so secondhand.

Ask away, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. Like this one :3Confused

Super7 have a good reputation, so you would be in safe hands :yes

Another FD headlamp alternative would be the knightsports conversion :)

Hi!!
Yes, Knightsports are the best option for lights!! Still look sleek when down too! :3gears-rh

Oh and I\'d definately recommend a later car if you can find one, I had a couple of earlier ones, got a 1999 one and much nicer! :D

Thanks for the reply Nik, I will certainly contact Super 7 shortly for some mods I\'d like done :)

I\'ll see if I can contact this Laeeq, unfortunately I cannot sign up on FDUK at the moment, I have tried loads of times, but it doesn\'t seem to work

Done to death lol, well that doesn\'t bother me as an RX7 isn\'t exactly a common car :)  Just think it suits the car a bit better than the pop-ups IMO.

Hmm not keen on that, although definitely an improvement on stock.  I\'d love a 1999 RX, however I only sold my top spec Supra to free up some cash, so it would defeat the object of selling if I bought an expensive rex :)

New to the car,  I have asked questions which are definately \'newbie ones\'  and have had many informative and useful replies.  Members on here really do try and help. I\'m sure you will enjoy your rex when you find one.

Ooh yeah it does freak me out a little, thinking about buying one that might go wrong on me, like a previous TT Supra did, spent thousands on it and it still wasn\'t right.  I think I have found a decent one, plus I will only do around 4 - 5k per year.  Don\'t worry about me sticking crappy big Veilside spoilers on and cheap wheels, I have taste :p

Welcome to MRC Nell, lovin the Supra!

If your looking for C-west lights and planning on doing night driving the first thing you will need to do is change the existing lamps (they are basically like fog lights and only light up about 4 feet infront of the car).

If this is the route you go you may like to check the link below as it has a couple of pics of how i got around this problem.

I sold my Supra yesterday, which was horrible :(  Especially as they were going the same direction so were behind me on the Motorway!!  It made me feel better to drive home in my new RX-7 (Frankie\'s) :D:D:D  Lovely car, clearly well looked after by Frankie, loads of history etc.

What a different driving experience to the Supra!!  Completely different power delivery, different handling, however it doesn\'t feel as big and safe and smooth as the Supra, it feels like a crazy go kart lol.  Shame it was raining so bad, didn\'t really get to test it.

Loads to learn still about the best way to drive it.  Frankie did tell me that I need to wait for figures to get to a certain point on the Apexi commander, however I\'ve forgotten lol, is it the same for all RX-7\'s pretty much, or is it totally different depending on how they\'ve been mapped or whatever?

so where are the pics :spank

just the same way you should treat any car from cold really, dont let it sit idling for ages, just take it easy on the revs and dont get into boost until its all nice and warm.

hope you have fun with it.

Got few things planned already :D  New front bumper, maybe a Burnout front, or a 99 spec bumper, FMIC, uprate the brakes and possibly change the exhaust.

Can someone tell me what the Blitz Nur Spec sounds like on an RX, I had one on the Supra fully decatted which sounded quite nice.  Not sure if I\'m keen on the Racing beat it currently has, it\'s extremely loud when I put my foot down,  but think the Nur Spec may sound better and I don\'t like the look of the tailpipe it has now.  It pops and flames with the current exhaust, would it still do this with the Nur Spec?

As Lee says, if you don\'t still have the cat or a silenced mid-pipe, a Nur-Spec on an FD will be very loud. I had one when my cat was still on and it wasn\'t too bad, but still louder than my de-cat ARC system is now :rollin

The Racing Beat exhaust on there now is pretty loud though, it pops quite a bit too, I just don\'t like the tail pipe! It\'s pretty black too where it has flamed a lot.

I need to get 99 spec front bumper lights, should I just get the ones on eBay for £90?

If a Racing Beat zorst seems pretty loud, I\'d advise not going for a Nur Spec in that case, the RB is generally considered one of the more civilised and quiet FD exhausts!

Dunno about the lights personally, never had a modern enough bumper to use them. Sorry

racing beat or other decent silenced midpipe will calm the noise then you can get any style tailpipe you want!

Quiet?!  It\'s not quite as loud as my Nur Spec which was fully decatted on my Supra, but not far off!  I can always put the baffle in if it\'s too loud though.  Anyway I\'ve gone and bought the Nur Spec now lol.  I\'ll hold on to the Racing Beat though so I can always change it back.

I\'d have a look at V-mount intercooler setups rather than front - they generally give better temps although you don\'t get that big grill at the front which looks kinda cool.

Breaks can be done pretty effectively by just changing the front discs and pad compound.  That\'s what I\'ve got on mine (along with braided hoses and R600 fluid and they\'re awesome - plenty good enough on track days and hauling the speed down from the wrong side of 170 at Brunters without a trace of fade.

I\'ve got the racing Beat twin exit cat back on mine and it\'s really quiet and civilised, yours is the single.  Could be that you need a decent silenced mid-pipe to go with it?

OK, not heard of a V mount lol.  I have booked it in with Super 7 for next week for a service, and if I can get hold of a Nur Spec in time, I\'ll get that on  too :Tongue1

I\'ll see what brakes they can sort me out, not looking to spend a fortune so new discs and lines sounds good.

Drove it today, I find that I really need to concentrate when driving, I\'m used to the Supra which is so easy to drive it practically drives itself, where as the rx is so aggressive, it\'s a very different drive, not sure if I\'m that keen on it lol.

Hi welcome and all that....

You will need to change your \'AVATAR\' to one with your new RX, and \'you\' of course.

Please post lots of full sized photos on here first so we can help you choose the best one.  We are a very friendly and helpful club and always like to assist new members.

(Various angles and positions are suggested as the FD is a great car with great shapes and you really need to get it spot on)
  Thanks   :Thumbs-up

A v-mount is basically the rad and intercooler mouunted in a V shape with the open end pointing towards the front - channels airflow well to both.

The rex is a visceral beast, I managed to spin mine (at 20mph) the first time I drove it in the wet.  I blame the crappy Jap tyres but def take it easy until you get the measure of it.

I\'ve never driven another car that gives so much feedback.  On the other hand my daily is a Jeep which tends to give feedback via the post.

Sunday morning. In the bedroom:
- My Dear, good morning! Want a breakfast here?
- No, thanks my lovely Prince. But we could change together the oil to the Seven!

You\'ll be fine on an entry-level trackday with standard brakes and tyres, so long as they\'re in fairly good nick when you start. i\'m still on the same tyres & brake pads i was a year ago, and four trackdays later, including 9 laps of the nurburgring! But I never got better than 10.45min :-(
But if you absolutely cane it you\'ll probably eat brake pads & tyres fairly quickly!!

Blimey that\'s not bad is it!  I need to do the Nurburgring as some point this year!  That\'s if my rx-7 doesn\'t cost me a fortune, had it 2 weeks, spent 1 week of that in Super 7 cause of a fuel leak :2Rolleyes

Anyones welcome.....i\'m getting bitten by the track bug!!!

Haha yeah you know I didn\'t even notice it had a fuel leak, until I took it in and Jason said it was spraying out the primary injector or something lol I thought it smelt strong, I just thought it was normal for a Rotary :D

Nice one Ashc; post up the details on another thread and see who else might want to join in.

Just to remind everyone I am planning four "official" MRC supported trackday outings this year to;

Cadwell Park - date TBA
Mallory Park - date TBA
Oulton Park - 24 November
Brands Hatch - 3 December

I\'d hoped to get all the dates sorted by now, but the demise of Donnington and the popularity of trackdays is complicating things. I\'ll announce more details as dates are sorted. There may well be some other days I will publicise, if I think people might be interested.

In fact, those friendly people over at MazdaOnTrack are organsiing another of their very popular Nurburgring trips, Friday 28th-Monday 31st May. Details can be found here;

Cheers Casey, hadn\'t seen the mazda on track ring trip - we were going to go that same weekend but the date changed last week and it\'s been put off till july 23rd-26th. I must say, the may date suits me better and there are benefits of going with a big group - ooh dilemmas! might have to go twice!!

Sussex Jap Car club meet under the arches at Madeira Drive on a weekday night, can\'t remember which. A Brighton meet might have to be something similar, Sunday\'s not much better than Saturday tbh, but I\'d be up for a meet anyway. Assuming the car works.....
