Title: Time for a bit of an update
Post by: NeilSR on January 12, 2010, 09:34:01 PM
Hey all, while since Ive posted but Ive been hanging around keeping up to date with things

Car is currently garage with no mot or tax, and busy trying to decide what to do with it this year

Current decision is to get some work done on it, get the interior stripped out and get it to the point where it can be used on track.  Get the seat fixed in properly (might get a new bride seat mount), get the door handle fixed and get all the ice out with the rest of the interior.

Then going to see what money I have and see if there are any other bits and pieces I can sort out, main thing is a front mount to keep things cool and a roll cage, and then maybe the front and rear wide arches, but main thing is to get some track time - drifting!  But if I cant any track time will be good enough! lol

Got a stock of wheels and tyres together, main thing I need to get sorted is getting the car to the track.

Whats the laws on towing now?  Passed my text in 1992 but not sure if I can or cant tow?

Also got me a haynes manual so I might actually have a play with a few things! lol

Anyway, nuff of me waffling on, time for a couple of pics, nothing that recent but I\'ll make sure I keep this thread up to date with the stuff I do in the next couple of weeks

Finally getting to the point of wantin g to do something with this car now!

Hey long time no posts!
You should be fine to tow if you passed in 92. I passed in 98 and I can tow 3500kg. Thats total weight including the towing vehicle. At least I think thats right. I would think you should be able to tow more as when you passed you could still drive a 7.5 tonne truck on your car licence. Have you still got your old paper licence or have you got one of these new photo ones? It\'ll tell you on the back of it thats all.

I passed on the 17th Jan 1997 missed the cut off by 17 days! What\'s most gutting is my test was supposed to be on the Christmas eve before but was cancelled due to fog. Anyway, like Tiddles I can only pull 750kg or something equally daft but if you passed before Jan 97 you are good to go.

Good looking FC anyway mate-keep us updated and try get some new pics up even if she is a bit dusty!

Yeah its broken! you need a new door handle, you might be able to fix it with wire but its a ghetto fix and probably wont last too long. I wouldnt bother just find a good door handle....come to think of it ive got both sides in red spare if you cant find anything:)

Ok, Ive popped the centre console in for a trial fi and its fantastic, but no simple way of fixing it, does anyone have any ideas?

Spent a few mins covering my once purple handle in carbon fibre vinyl, decided as seen as Id dont that Id go out to the garage and fit it.  About 30 mins later, all sorted and working!  Just need to cover the other one to match

also took a quick pic of the current stance of the car from the rear, got about 2 inches of clearance on the sideskirts

so, plenty more to get on with!

Old seat frame

Centre console in with switches (hopefully some gauges to be added soon), stereo relocated to the glove box (need to make a surround and fixings for this yet, and an ipod dock added to the lid which needs finishing off.  Nedd to fix the gear surround down properly for the next time i take pics, lol

I quite like the CF surround. Did you block of the heater vent? might be a good idea to do that permanently so its not always blasting onto the back of that CF piece. I did look into these but was in two minds, is it fairly thick and strong?

some sweet updates dude... loving it.

glad you found the carbon bits as good as i did. soulda gone for a full cage tho rather than the rear for looks..

then you would have a bad ass D1 Street legal car as ure runnin full interior etc.

Pete, I havent blocled off the heater vent yet no, gonna see how it goes, but ive got the heat aiming onto the windscreen anyways

Yeah really think and strong, took a fair bit to drill into to get the switches in, lighter plug is a direct fit once trimmed aswell

i may be tring to teacdh you to suck eggs here but a common mistake i mate when i first tries putting my 8 sideways was when pulling the handbrake i would forget to dip the clutch. meaning while the brakes where doing their job the wheels where still being driven so all it did was slow me up.

then again i am sure you know this already... oh if only we where allowed hydraulic handbrakes here in the uk for road use.

Lol, u kinda need to dip the clutch anyway, or else the car would just stall

Im lucky if I can lock mine with the handbreak. Maybe time for an adjustment although its always been like it.

Could never initiate off mine. tbh the handbrake is more for slowing down the rear wheels mid drift, you\'d really need it to lock up. You could always enter a bit slow and enter with the clutch or some fancy weight distro

I\'ve got a hydro to fit on my car sometime because while I can JUST ABOUT lock the rears, it\'s not good, and you don\'t want to be sat in ....pit tugging away as hard as you can, and mess up the rest of the drift! Clutch kick ftw.

Step down lads, I beat both of you!

How\'d you get on today neil? I adjusted my handbrake today and had a run out. Still can\'t really lock the rears although I never really chucked it into a corner and gave it a yank.

Its at mashamoto at the moment waiting for the new clutch aswell, apparently its adjusting the handbrake underneath that needs to be done, not at the handle itself.

Few more updates

Clutch is now sorted and runs sweet, feels like a completely different car now and sooooo quick compared to before

Skid rims and tyres have arrived - £120 for the lot (8 wheels with knackered tyres and 13 spare tyres)

Ordered some of these as currently have no tow hooks on the car

Ive stripped out the rear seats, and the install to make space for drifty wheels and make the rear end a bit lighter

Handbrake cables were over stretched, not been able to find anywhere with any in, so hopefully getting a hydro wand tomorrow or tuesday

Then, only 2 weeks to go til skid day!

I\'ve got a hydro, had it since a TD group buy about 3 years ago, never fitted it!
