on the cover of banzai this month lovely idea i want same engine sounds great.
but!
on the center pages the first pic has a large piece of what looks like ply wood in the front middle vent ?????
wtf is that for surely itll get wet ??? and collapse :3Confused
I\'m guessing it\'s the splitter you\'re talking about.
Ply is very commonly used for splitters on proper track cars :)
Cheap, easily formed, reasonably tough, and expendable.
EDIT: unless you mean on the driver\'s side here:

In which case that\'s ducting.
no sih its not the splitter it looks to be on an aly bracket pointing up the side near the steering rack like a sheild for something or i dunno intregued
ply was used for testing befor doing it in alloy i think im sure matt will be along to confirm..
so its a shield then rob ? is that for the exhaust or to protect the rack ?
the ply looks to me like ducting for the rad. and would probably have been mocked up before making in metal as rob said. There isn\'t really anything there to shield is there?

Just pointing you to main thread on the car with pictures dude, the owner has posted on that thread so you might get some of your questions answered
ahh ok its not that important just wondered thats all
yes ducting for the rad.

The steering rack and universal join cover are miles\'ish from that ducting though mate:Thumbs-up
Its ducting to the rad, ply is used as its cheap and easy to work with, as SiH says its used a lot on race cars for the same reason.
We dont need to heat sheild anything on the hot side as its N/A with a ceramic coated manifold that traps a huge ammount of heat.
matt you will be changing it from ply though yes?just to save some weight?
ah i see thanks matt did wonder the cars wicked mate really like it just wondered what it was for not taking the .... i thought all that 3 rotor carbon ceramic coating youd have gone for carbon but i suppose ply is the next best lol
Carbon is £350 a sheet and ply is £20 so unless I get something very cheap it stays ply!
jesus how big is that ply then
Big! 2m by 1m
sod that then
I told you Matt - a lovely wood polish would finish it off a treat :p
Speedhunters have just provided a perfect example of why unless your a fully fledged team with cash to splash, then plywood is a more sensible option than exotic materials such as carbon fibre:
