Engine number 3 went last week. It had done about 4000 miles of weekend driving , no track or racing, it was a very well set up engine maintained and tuned by Pip. He told me today that one of the spark plugs are corroded on the end so it’s had a bad connection with the lead and it has made it chip a tip.
The biggest regret I ever made was not putting a V8 in three years ago and getting rid of this F****** W*** setup.
Everything i put on the car is top quality and somthing as simple as this makes it pop, utter crap.
Damn, i feel for you mate.
What direction you thinking of going ?
Popping a rotary back in ?
I have spent about £5000 this year on a new turbo kit and other bits so i will put a rotary back in. If i hadn\'t spent that i would put a new v8 in , or just buy the one thats for sale at the mo and got a sledge hammer and knocked the f*** out of this car lol.
who built the engines out of interest?
i have a jaydee big ported ( one off ports) engine for sale...trick seals...special mods done to various other parts of the engine.

Lindops did the rebuild but this has nothing to do with the them.
"one of the spark plugs are corroded on the end so it’s had a bad connection with the lead and it has made it chip a tip"
I dont understand that^^^^ A new engine shouldnt go like that. if its tuned for safety.
Hmmph i really feel for you mate. i have had engine problems myself. been through 3 in as many years. My engine from Lindops lasted about 1000 miles.I tuned it super rich but ran 1.2 bar. Cant claim under the warranty as they didnt do the single tub work and i have torn the engine down now myself.
send the map to someone on here that maps to see if the map is ok. cos that is very strange.
Surely new engine, new plugs? on the rebuild were parts re-used or brand new?
i was thinking that, if the engine has been maintained properly that would include the proper plugs ?????
The engine is about 18mths old and its done about 3500-4000 miles and i have had no problems with it. The plugs were replaced about 1000 miles ago when i had a single conversion and the leads were as new then so no need to replace them. I always tell Pip to replace whatever it needs so they were fine . The mapping was great 430BHP @ just under1 bar so quite safe there so no blame at all to anyone but me for not seeing the signs.
I think ive heard enough.
You should get an independant opinion. surely a properly built and tuned engine should last a hell of alot longer than that if ancilliaries have not failed.
did you have new housings?
what fuel was you using Davyv?
Shell Blits, i always do.
might be worth getting all your injectors flow tested, more and more problems with poor flowing injectors due to their age will occur

Can you run 430bhp on stock FD injectors then?
have you fuel checked out, could be lousy fuel.
ive seen this before with lousy fuel.

1 year old 1650 Bosch injectors. All the fuel system has been upgraded for my single conversion within the last 18 mths.
Understand your anger however one thing is for sure in that something caused this and the last thing you need is to loose another,
Has this engine been stripped or is this an observation from the outside

were your primary injectors checked and flowed at the same time?
when I was still running 550 primaries years ago one of them were found to be underflowing to the rear rotor

Just from the outside at the moment clive.

The 550 were done when the 1650 were fitted.

Especially if this is a trailing plug we are talking about I can\'t see how this could take the engine out :o,
I know this is tough but trust me piston engines can die as well, I know this from losing many engines over the years while I was racing and it taught me that its always important to find the cause.
You say this is the third engine you have lost so I would say its now important to find out that your not dealing with some sort of vehicle fault that can be related to the other failures.
For instance one often over looked item is the engine wiring loom, indeed I know of more than one person that\'s lost multiple engines and it was due to the loom and not the engine at all !
Mind you I have wondered if this is something as simple as a boost spike in this very cold weather ?
Sorry to here this dude :(
I hope you get to the bottom of the problem and not loose another one :)
Regards
Matt
Ouch. It is storys like this which prevent me from ever considering a \'7 - even as a track fun toy!
strange. the spark plugs not normally corrode?
Ive been through 3 engines in as many years im near certain if i had a skyline a tvr or a porshe id still be on engine 1 all else being equal.
LOL @ TVR!!!
Sorry dr but you will be tearing your hair out just as much with one of those as you are with the 7;)
a good mate had a 2nd hand 4.5 cerb a Tuscan and a chimera over 4 years with no problems apart from the day he bought the tuscan which was brand new the accelerator cable snapped.
This will make you laugh then,
A week after my uncle picks up his brand new 05 plate Sagaris funnily enough the same thing the accelerator cable snaps.
3 weeks after getting it back he goes for a hoon up the M11 which the guys down here will know that its a naughty stretch of road lol, puts in 5th and his mate flashes him saying the bloody reverse light comes on:rollin
Id still own a Sag, stunning cars with that sound of the straight six made it awesome :)
My uncle had TVR\'s for 12 years-mostly Chimera 4\'s, I remember him saying they grab your soul (bit like a rex!) but you just gotta view it like a naughty puppy and when it breaks down you just shake your head and accept the consequences! Beautiful cars though and that sound........:InLove
My soul needs grabbing and a rx on axle stands isnt doing it for me at the moment especially in this cold weather cos i cant fix the bloody thing. hope my engine lasts a while this time
Bad luck mate, but you could just as easily be talking about a holed piston because it suddenly leaned out. I\'ve seen 3 hand built VW race engines explode this year when built with some care and precision - you can\'t legislate for everything.
You haven\'t raced or rallied it, but I\'ve run multiple full seasons caning the absolute living daylights out of Pip\'s various engines without an internal problem - the last failure was just the bearings going through after over a season.
So I\'d question whether there\'s a fundamental problem with rotaries (there isn\'t) or a fundamental problem with your WGT engine (there isn\'t).
There may well be a problem with some ancilliaries and my advice would be to go and cry to Pip and ask him to give it a going over and be kind to you.. I\'m guessing he\'s diagnosing a tip seal because compression is down on 1 of the 3 strokes on one rotor from the other. Whatever, again I\'d ask him to be kind and see what the best offer is.

:)
Reminds me of the day I pulled away from the Lotus dealer in a brand new Elise, and the throttle pedal fell off..

Stacy its not a wgt engine and i have said its nothing to do with the enging builder.
The cars in pips now being rebuilt and i dont understand why i should go crying to him, and him to be kind to me lol what a daft thing to say.
Yes just read through (been away for several weeks). By extention thought we were thus talking about a warranty job - so hardly daft?
