Title: make-over!
Post by: ENVYD on December 28, 2009, 06:32:30 PM
Well as the winter weather started, And my rx-7 was going to go off road, I decided to give it a make over with a budget in mind for the new show season that lays ahead! all work will be done by me bar the sound system!
i will let the picks do most of the talking!

started to strip in on the drive to repaint the engine bay:
then moved to the body shop for the work to begin:
then on to the trial fit of the side skirts:
they did not fit to well, so i marked off the area i wanted to cut off to get the type of fit i wanted:

yeah i know the colour and so do another small amount of people! nothing to bling like...

yeah Karl, i was going to, but so many people are going wide are these days that i wanted to die it down and keep with what i think is a nice subtle kit with few lil carbon goodies!

i have also got my hands on a set of real good condition Zeal Coilovers for a real low price of £100.

no mate its the old tiger seal, i have left it on to line the vent back up as some of the pins are missing off the vent, so the tares in the tiger seal help with lining it back up!

Looking sweet bud, well impressed. I might need your skills before too long as mine is in desperate need of a respray (which i might add, you did offer to do ages ago! lol) but also i need a dent pulling out of the car which was hidden buy the rubber side skirts but now i\'ve got the carbon ones on it look terrible (wasn\'t my fault btw)
Is Paul the guy who does the carbon fibre work?
Anyways, car looks great bud and best of luck setting up your own business, hope it goes well for you.

well got a few more lil things done to day,
i thought the car could do with a sorting out as it was starting to get a bit messy:

before:

after

then i finished off the rear bumper:

all preped ready for primer:

then a start on one of the doors, i forgot my paint stripper so started sanding off the stone chip, but its taking ages so they will be getting finished off tomoro:

then prep and prime the vents:

Title: make-over!

oh and Rob, Paul said around £200 as it takes a day or so just to flatten the bonnet down!
Title: make-over!
Post by: Bobbit on January 12, 2010, 10:07:23 AM
Sounds a little steep to me that bud, i\'ll see if I can flatted the bonnet myself and take it in to see if he\'d be happy with my efforts and then give me a price for the lacquering alone.
I like your mirrors, just got myself a plastic set from spa that I plan to cover in carbon, have you seen the thread on FD:UK about the bases?
Title: make-over!
Post by: ENVYD on January 12, 2010, 05:11:38 PM
okay mate no bother, yeah he says the price its just down to the time it takes to get all the bonnet down to a good layer of resin!

am not on FD:uk mate, not that i know of anyway lol

have you got a link?

well some more bits and bobs done.

it was taking to long to get the stone chip off so some good old Nitro Mors give a hand:

then it was time to block up to old mirrors holes (i did weld first but forgot to take a pick):

then i primed the prepped panels and with the left over i primed in inside/door edge:

well long time no post, it did not help that my cam got washed with orange juice!
anyways some more picks for you all

finished off the pass side door:

also got started on the rear bumper and vent, both got reactions for some gay
reason, but also both got sorted:

while i was doing the bumper i started to flat back the clear coat for a smoother finish:

then started to fit a few bits up:

then a start on the front bumper. the after market one if off by miles, so much so that i cut my stock on in half to get a better panel gap and bridge the two together, even doing this the curves of the after market bumper seem to be really really off to stock within only 1-2" of panel gaps, so might have to buy a new front bumper:

you mean in the bumper itself? is so, they dont, i have already made markings on the bumper that needs cut back for them to fit in! wish i knew were the bumpe came from as the mold is very bad!
Title: make-over!
Post by: RobMatthews on January 26, 2010, 09:43:56 PM
yeah! although the one i had only needed some minor adjustment to make a decent fit, the sidelight/turn signal never fitted well though, just left them out for more airflow to my oil coolers.

I dont think its a replikit bumper(i dont know how good theirs is though),looks like one made by ibk bodykits.

This RX is gonna look very nice when finished. Just to let you know, your brake disc is on the wrong side. The grooves are running against the forward rotation. That way they will wear the pads very quickly and can cause noise under heavy braking.
I\'ve seen alot of cars with this mistake.
My mate has just bought a Scooby and the front discs are round the wrong way. Horrid wurring noise under long braking.

i\'m not sure if they are mate i had a big discussion on this when i fitted mine and every technical  bod i phoned said it has nothing to do with the groves on the disc its the vents in the middle that need to go the right way thats the important bit ... so they might be right dont believe the hype i thought that and originally fitted mine wrong the first time and mine point the same as envys now ;)

Yeah, just like Batman said, i always thought that that grove should go the other way to force the heat to the edge of the disk, but i was wrong! they are now fitted the correct way and worked much better, no noise either!

Are you leaving the wheels that close to the arch? How hard do you have to run the rear suspension to stop your wheels wrecking your bodywork...
... or do you only drive the smoothest & flatest roads :Thumbs-up

PS Do you still have your plastic fuel filler flap? If you are no longer in need of it, I could give it a good home :)

According to a test one of the guys did on a US forum, for every 2 inches the suspension travels up you get 3 degrees of negative camber.

well some free lance photographers were up at Jurgen\'s (jm-import) the other day and they knew about my car from last month they were up, they had spoken to a few mags and got loads of interest in my car (jap performance said they might use it as a cover car when finished) so they wanted to get a few snaps on it to show the mags!

anyways, i give it a bit of a clean and pushed it over to Jurgen’s ready for them, while they were away doing a shoot! but doing this, i cracked the front bumper lol, at least i know its low enough!

some quick snaps i got anyways:
diffuser is back off for a lil bit (just to push around)

Nice car, but why the stickers.... it\'s so ...ricey

got it off ebay bud!

its just a groupe i am with! and the rotors are just something a lil diff, and as for "ricey" you can say it is just by putting a kit on it! so a few lil stickers dont harm it!

I\'ve got a tiny stick on jobby, got it at rs5-bout the size of a motorbike plate (long thin not square). MOT station don\'t like it but not had any trouble from the police. Touch wood!

Car looks great though.
