wouldnt the water get stuck in the intercooler?
Also could you inject LPG to lower intake temps? Its just i have a LPG kit i could use on my rex possibly for additional injection
there is a big debate on pre turbo water injecting and has been for a while.
i know ross was experimenting with it
We are building a car at the moment, where the customer wants to run the water pre turbo. Im not the biggest fan of WI, but if you can make sure the water is atomised then it should be ok, so running the smallest injectors possible and if necessarily run 2 to gain the attain sufficient water.
Potentially you should on paper get water in the intercooler. Water will form droplets the moment it touches the edges, and so you would think puddles would start forming in the end tanks. But having run the cars on a misty day, no residues were left in the end tanks...so Im going to wait and see whether any puddles start to form when we test.
forget LPG injection.
Pre Turbo WI has pretty good results with good atomisation, getting the amount correct is vital as you dont want it pooling water in the intercooler as you have indicated.
If you have it coming approx 13 psi and scale the volume according to boost then the engine will injest the water correctly and there will be no pooling.
100% water if going pre turbo, wouldnt like to inject any meth pre turbo as thats a fuel just in case it might ignite how ever \'remote\' inside a hot turbo housing.
WI is awesome if done correctly no need for expensive race fuel. I will be hooking WI back up in the middle of the next season
Aquamist have released the new HFS6 kit awesome plug and play, which scales correctly to injector duty with failsafes
i hear jet angle and position is critical tho pre turbo
maybe ross can come and shed some light without telling us his hard earned research secrets
distance between the compressor blades and the jet is the most important thing, too close it wont atomise correctly, approx 4 inches is what a lot of Aussie guys do
Ah. Im thinking of running it pre turbo to lower inlet temps and help the engine. Do i have to tune for it? or can i just keep it running rich as. Maybe reduce the afrs a touch. Are there any handy graphs about?
most examples I have seen of preturbo the tune has not been touched, used to lower intake charge temps therefore leads to det suppression and allowing the driver to increase boost safely.
Aquamist have have a forum you can join and //www.rx7club.com have a big AI section with plenty of graphs and info
nice one blitz will do. cheers
well theres a guy on rx7club with a proper ghetto setup blowing 500cc of water into his turbo when running 23psi of boost on pump fuel.
Ive seen 32psi on pump fuel but that was with 1600cc of water, a guy from oz doing it and he put down over 700whp on a gt42
Yeh the guy whos made 700rwhp in a FB with a GT42 i know. Heres a vid of it on the street. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj-TQIPmQUg
His new car that his building is a similar spec engine but bigger turbo and is running one of the Rice Racing kits i think..
Ive got a Rice Racing Water Injection Kit that ill be fitting to my 12at.. Also the Rice Racing kit doesnt involve any eletronics it is all run on boost pressure preasurising the water tank..
Who else here is running water injection and what sort of boost and hp on pump fuel you making????
on my old spec I was running a T04Z on a small half bridge, got 468 at the wheels at 1.35 BAR (550 bhp) on water and pump fuel, it coped when it spiked unexpectly at 1.6 BAR as well, the aquamist system tracks Injector duty to put in the correct amount of water volume
anyone else make any good power with pump and water injection??
I\'m hoping to next year on a to4s @ 1.2 bar. 430rwhp would be nice!
running 1.4bar on full bridge t51 and water injection. Havent dynod it since remap but was running 450@wheels (450@wheels) on .95 bar before:wiggle
Just be careful with injecting water pre turbo, the turbine blades are spinning at 100,000+ RPM and the water hitting it itsn\'t good lol just be careful lol
Here is a clever idea, its not a pre or post water injection system, its actually IN the turbo:

Here is a post up about the damage done if water is injected pre-turbo:

that looks very cool, where did you find that, is it off an aircraft or something?

Pure urban Myth dude, been tested many times, the jet pressure coming from the WI atomiser jet is not like the pressure of a water cutter lol
You should see the videos when they test aircraft jet engines and they spray tons of water into the running jet turbine, no damage and engine still runs

Its ok mate, like anything if its not setup right its bad lol but it does seem a pretty cool idea, although surely it would be better to cool the intake charge after its been heated up by the turbo, so maybe post turbo, pre intercooler?
pre or post turbo the intake charge is cooled, some say pre turbo is more efficent and the charge is atmosied more and effciency the turbo is extended.
Pre turbo most people dont change the map. post turbo you can run 50:50 with meth and alter the map accordingly
Wouldn\'t the meths attach the aluminium?
the meth mixture is held in a plastic tank with a meth safe pump, when it gets atomised correctly it wont attach to anything
