Title: FD door handle busted...
Post by: mark-ashley on December 20, 2009, 09:59:06 AM
Can\'t open the passanger door on my FD, opens ok from the inside and the lock works, just the external door handle doesn\'t open the door, has gone all flimsy as if something has snapped off.

I\'ve taken it off but cant find anything obvious, anyone had one of these go on them and managed to repair it or has anyone got a spare one for sale ?

Cheers

Mark

If you\'ve taken it all off you\'ll probably see a little notch has worn in the plastic at the back of the handle, where it is suppose to push the latch inside.

You can tell the cold weather is here lol, mine snapped off last year when it got below freezing, it was a metal cast type one too!!!

new complete units can be had for around £30-£40 second hand and only take minutes to fit.

Same problem.

Is the snapped part a part of the actual outer door handle?

I\'ve been looking at the technical drawings but I can\'t see any other parts.

Cheers,
Dan

If its like mine its purely a tiny (like 2mm wide, 1mm deep) worn notch in the back of the handle, where it pushes on the latch inside.  The handle then just slips past the latch instead of lifting it (hence the lack of resistance) - see the light grey part on the furthest away arm in each picture:

I just swapped on a new handle and that was that - I reckon if I could have been arsed some araldite and a bit of sandpaper would have done the job too.

hi neil, where did you get these from second hand at that price if you dont mind me asking? just snapped mine off yesterday its just the plastic exterior part i need rather than the locking mechanism i think but if that price is complete unit cant argue!
