Hi All,

Im wondering if anyone has any good contacts to any auto eletricians in the kent area..

I have a problem with my front lights on my FB that will pop up but wont go back down..

There is some other weird thing happening with the clock that when its hooked up to a switch the dash lights come on when clicked..

I have the wiring diagram from Haynes if any help. Trouble is they printed both US and UK diagrams and it\'s not easy to follow which diagram to use.

sorry read to quick, fb????????????????.
mine did very simular, clock worked but would loose its memory with ignition off i found that when the stereo was wired in someone had taken the live feed from the clock to use on the stereo, when i put it back the live must have back fed somewhere and thats what happened to mine, lights were ok - turned them on ok, up they popped. when i switched them off the lights went out but didnt re-tract, when i stripped out the center consoul and radio surround ect and sorted the wiring i found that the same happened with the pop up switch diconnected so i figured some how the live from the clock was shorted to the pop up light switch output feed on the switch and holding them up. took away the feed and all was well, routed a new permanent live to my clock and been ok since. (if that makes any sense?)

yeh havent had a chance to take a look but i suspect either the battery feed in the loom somehow has a feed back into the loom which the retractable head light switch uses to pull the lights down..

Ive got a haynes manual so when i get a chance will have to study and get to the car with a test lamp and multi meter to troubleshoot.

Does anyone know where the retractable head light switch is located... underdash or engine bay???

hi, the switch my clock was linked to was the dash switch, does the head lamp wash wipe. that also leaves the lamps up when disconnected. jon.

The fact that you have more than one problem occurring suggests that this is nothing more than a bad earth fault so rather than pay electricians look for any clumps of earth wires attached to the body and clean em up

Hope this helps

No it was just by accident that i plugged in a 4 pin switch to the clock loom and this is when the red / fuel pumps went on when clicked down and when clicked up the dash lights come on..

tbh i dont have the time to trouble shoot the car will be sitting for a few more months till i get our family issue in line, but i have found a old auto electrician who will charge £15 call out and then £40 per hr to trouble shoot and fix - which ill prob employee some of his time after christmas to sort it..

if the lights were ok before your mishap with the switch you have poss. just blown a fuse and killed the feed to the headlight switch, sounds obvious but have you checked the fuses, even if your busy you would be ....ed off if you pay sparky £40 to find a blown fuse...

have you any more details, from the beggining, did everything work ok before you put the switch to the clock loom, have you removed it now, is everything plugged back in as it should be( as best as you can tell). fitting a switch to the clock loom could light the dash lights as the clock loom has
perm feed(clock memory)
ignition feed(on/off)
feed from lights(to dim)
earth
the switch will have linked out the light feed and either the perminent feed or the ignition feed hense putting 12v to the lights and switching them on. if everything worked before you can check and see which feed you linked to the lights and then know wich two other wires you linked - that will give you a really good idea what went wrong. also remember if the headlampwash switch isnt fitted the lights wont go down as i found out. if your sure the fuses are ok double check all your plug connections youve had out, if it was ok before you can find what youve done wrong since. give it another bash, good luck jon.
