hi ian, that does seem a bit strange, mine stays at 85-86,  what coolant did u use and did u mix with distilled water, remember they aint normal cars lol nick.

hi nick, i put 1/3 of a 1 litre bottle of carplan blue star antifreeze in, no water, i didnt realise you have to put distilled water in,also i didnt mix it oops is that bad? cheers for the reply   ian.

puting distilled water in does nothing ;) the reason for this is, as soon as it goes through the iron plates it becomes the same as tap water..... so save the cost & just put tap water in ;)

Could be a slight air lock..... try taking the water pipe off the back of the inlet manifold & see if it needs bleeding, & for the quantity you have put in you don\'t need to worry about the mix as there will be plenty of water in the system to dilute it.

Running water temp at 98c is way high i believe for water seals...
if i ever reach 100 i stop immediatleyto recover the temps.
You prob have an air lock of some form if this only started happening when playing with coolant.

98 is fine in some conditions. What were you doing at the time? Sitting in traffic? Caning it? On track etc?
You\'d be surprised the temps that you will reach. I\'ve frequently hit over than and not driven away with my car in bits ;)

Think the terminal death temp is something like 125c..... when you turn off the engine  after a run..... go back & flick on the ignition so the temp reads & you will be looking at a rather scairy 110c or something similar!! It\'s suprising how hot these things can get without dieing!!

Also remember that coolant will not cool as effectively as water.

The order of cooling effectiveness is;

1. Pure coolant
2. Coolant + Water
3. Water (but it will freeze and oxidise)
4. Water and Water Wetter (or similar)

So dumping a chunk of pure coolant in, not as the right mix, will increase your temp slightly although I\'d say not as much as you\'ve seen.

Im not sure why it doesnt increase the effective cooling....

But what it does do is increase the boiling point.  And unlike the freezing point, where you need to go to a 70:30 mix to achieve maximum protection against freezing....for boiling it is 100:0

As ever the answer lies in science.

You are incorrect in your assertion of a 100:0 mix however.

As concentrations of coolant/antifreeze or more particularly ethylene glycol rise, so the freezing point lowers, and the boiling point rises. Pressuring the system (eg via a 15psi pressure cap) will raise the boiling point a further 25o or so.

Quote from: Jit;657847On my stock Rex with stock rad I never see more than 90 even in traffic

My stock one got up to 100oC if I was sitting in traffic in summer but the fans kicked it down to around 90 again.

After getting the PFC it never gets past 90 and averaged 82-83.

Now got the Feed FMIC and rad fitted and it\'s now around 78.

all sorted now guys, the car has ben wired so that the fans are on all the time and its been conected through the power that goes to the stereo, the wirein wasnt very good realy, so riped all the old wires out and put new ones in, not conecting them to the stereo though lol, all working fine and staying at 85c now,im still going to do a coolant change just for piece of mind, next job new turbo ,:Hammerouch, thanx for the help:cheers

You want to go careful that you have the correct gauge of wire here as the fans do draw quite a large current!

that was the problem befor, someone put a fuse in the circut that wasnt up to the job melted everywhere, iv put twice the thickness of wire in and a rockford fosgate fusebox in seems to be fine now what u think atomic?

Without seeing the wire, it is difficult to comment.....lol

25 Amp wire is approx 2.5mm thick.  Now according to the book, the standard fans draw 13.6 Amps at max....now what it doesn\'t state is that each or both....I would assume that it is each as our fans draw close to 30Amps at max draw.  The largest draw will be at the beginning...and then it will calm down a little....so if your wire is 2.5mm thick or thicker.....then jobs a good-un

That said, this doesn\'t include the stereo...what current does that draw??

Personally I would have it on different spurs, and with a fuse in line

i think jobs a gud1 in that cace pal, i used some wire that i got from work its about 3mm thick realy heavy duty and well insulated, the fuse i used is off my old rockford setup looks nice and tidy now, carnt see any other bits that have been changed fingers crossed lol,

as for the stereo that is wired up on its original wires so nothing changed there:Thumbs-up
