Title: ET question
Post by: Skifledanabit on December 01, 2009, 02:04:17 PM
Ok, so I\'ve seen a couple of other threads about this but they apply to the FD, I basically have 30mm wheel spacers all round, I also have 25mm fender flares, I want to get some deep dish or the right sized ET wheels to fill out the flares... what can i get? what sized ET?

What size tyres do you want to run?  are these on 17" or 18"

17\'s, I would like the tyres slightly stretched, like this...

just not too keen on the actual rim design.

if you want to be so precise it think you\'re best off going for a tape measure.

Or you could just by something with a decent offset (Say 13-20), try fitting them. If they don\'t poke enough, throw some spacers on. When they\'re poking out you can then look to see how much stretch you\'ll need :D

also if you want fitment similar to that 5, you\'ll need to consider what kinda camber you want to run.

well obviously that\'s a way down the line, I just want an idea of what size will fill the fenders, that MX5 is an eventual thing

Fronts you can fit 8.5J ET 25 and up to 18"
Rears 9.5J and ET of 25 as well.

Just play around with the JJ and offset until you get what you want but to be honest it depends on what width tyres you want and then make your calcs based around that. I have 10J and 15 ET on the rear of mine but then I have the wider rears to cope.

I see your 10J and raise it to 12J ET 15 on ours :) :)

Ok... confuzzled now... basically, what is the max sizes I can have from a 15" wheel for front and rear on an FC, I\'m looking at bassett wheels steelies from america, they use them on the indycars, they look good too.

well i have not got pics yet sorry guys as im stuck out in the north sea again but my car has 9 inch wide wheels all round went for a high offset on the front but had to use a 5mm spacer to stop and fouling and a really low offset on the rears and stretched 215 45 17 tires

my rotas are17\'s 9.5 all round on 215 tyres and i had to get longer studs and 9.5mm spacers to clear the struts on the front.
Offset was 30 i think.

Time to get your tape measure out!

Measure the current width and offset of your wheels.
Next measure the available space back to items such as your dampers whilst the wheels are straight....then turn them lock to lock and check that the extra width doesn\'t knock against the inner arches, suspension or damper. Then measure the available width back to the edge of the arches so that you aren\'t showing any tyre.

Do this front and rear and post back the measurements...then we can calculate the available width and offset.

Personally I would go to a 16" rim...we are doing an FB project at the moment, and the available discs and calliper set ups are minimal for the 15" rims. We are fitting 300x32 discs on a 4 pot calliper on the front with 16" rims :)

The good thing about having the wheels made is you wont need spacers :)

Personally when working it out, I looked at what offset my wheels already are: 6.5J ET38, turned full lock, I have space and it clears fine.

Therefore if I get the outer lip banded to 8.5J I have an ET of 15, but the back space is exactly. Doing this means I KNOW I have clearance. (as said the rears will be 9.5J ET0).
I worked it out by using an \'offset calculator\'. Try to keep the backspace as similar to standard wheels as possible, then go outwards from there!

You do need to careful with just adding out...

The cars geometry has been worked out using the standard wheel.  By just going out you wont necessarily be using the full width of the wheel....and so will need to add camber (or remove as you are adding negative).  Be aware as you are going to be changing the way the roll centres work, the bumpsteer may get worse....this is just at the front...the rears arent too much of an issue as they dont steer :)

It\'s not what I promised, but this will do for now. Bear in mind in all photo\'s I\'ve just dropped the car down, it hasn\'t been moved, if I\'d moved it the ride height would have dropped slightly and I\'d not have positive camber!

The wide ones are 8J ET-10 :D (standard rears for widebody Starions!) and the others, I think, are 7.5J ET20.

With the right choice of tyres and lots of arch rolling the Starion rears WOULD fit, but for now I\'ll just run the fronts on the front.

Yeah mate, I\'ll have those Starion rear wheels on there some day! With some arch rolling and 205 tyres instead of the 225\'s it should happen.

Still planning on getting the steels banded though. But they\'re on the car, and can\'t get them off till I have other wheels ready to run.

Damn, where can I get a set of those wheels? I guess that the arches won\'t need rolling if about an inch gets cut off them? The flares will cover them (after being re-welded obviously). Will the rears fit ok after that happens?
