Title: 1st gen widebody IMSA project
Post by: food7373 on December 01, 2009, 12:18:48 AM
So i got my rex not too long ago from a field in a land far far away. the poor rex had been sitting for 10 years because it stopped working for the previous owner. poor poor rexy. When i got rex, he was in bad condition.

So i took rex and washed him the next day.

Rex was happy, but not too happy, he still didnt run. So over the next month,  me and my friends looked up forums and storys of starting rx7\'s that sat over the years. after new spark plugs, a starter, some rewiring, and new fluids and filters. the rex started up and left a nice big black spot in the barn on the wood behind the exhaust from the oil coming out of him, he was happy.

there was still one problem with rex though holding him back in his cave. he wouldn\'t move. after doing some extensive research i decided to get a new slave cylinder and install that. so i did, and one afternoon, rex moved foward a little bit. i was excited. i took rex for a drive and i was satisfied and so was rex.

everything was going great, i was happy and so was rex, but rexs tranny wasnt happy, it made some sounds and it still ran, just made some weird sounds, so i have to work on that sometime. but for now, rex and i were given a challenge. my friends dad said he would like to see rex look like an old imsa rx7, so i accepted this. first was get rid of interior and paint it glossy gray, thats almost done.

so the interior was stripped and painting is almost done. so i then made a list of stuff to get
1. wide wheels to fill out body kit
2. old imsa seats
3. roll cage
4. PP
5. rebuild tranny?
6. body work, (small rust and cracks from sitting so long)

for the wheels, i dont know what to get or where to get them. i would like to get some mesh wheels with a nice wide lip, but idk where to find 4x110. for the seats, i got that all planned out (its a secret). for the cage, idk where to get one, dont have to worry about it yet. PP, its a street port right now, or a bridge, idk. for body work, thats my christmas present, yay. so can anyone help me out here and tell me what to get for some stuff and where to get it, and if anyone has any ideas, shoot them at me.
as for engine mods, heres the list

"the car\'s engine is a 12a, i believe bridgeport, probably gonna up that to PP in the near future, has headers, mikuni carb, K&N intake (might redo intake so i can get air flow through fog light holes in front), NGK ignition set (plugs and wires), MSD blaster coils, had a viper alarm system ( that got torn out by me, hehe), AC got taken out, holley fuel pump (veryyyyy loud), and im not sure what else has been done to it by previous owners... but my favorite feature is the widebody"

I guess you\'re still in a land far away? The pa in your address means USA? Your words are great, thanks for that and a warm welcome from me.

what do you guys think for the wheels? im not quite sure what to get, ive been looking and not too much luck with mesh wheels that have a big lip. i would love to get mesh, but if there\'s another wheel that looks perfect, id go for it, like this.
