hi,just wondering what would be the maximum boost level i can run with the following mods.
3 inch from tub back
blitz dump valve
fuel cut defender
blitz air filter
boost gauge
I assume its around the 1 bar area??
cheers
i remember being told it can be done. personally i wouldn\'t do it without a chipped ecu or something though.
Thinking about it, as long as your deff getting enough fuel it shouldnt be tooo bad
oh, also depends what you\'re doing with the car. If you\'ve got stock intercooling and cooling i wouldnt rag it about all the time on more than 0.9 bar as this is supposed to be where the stock intercooler starts becoming un efficient.
You need a chipped ECU, the knightsports chipped ECU or simular are usually mapped to 0.9 bar, but thats the max the stock injectors can take, I have a knightsport ecu and my e-manage logged almost 90% duty cycle on the primaries at 0.8 bar...very very close to losing the engine
What boost controller are you running and what wastegate porting and bearings did you go for on the turbo?
im running the same as above but street ported with the fuel pressure raised and a fmic and 4 beat ecu at 0.9 bar and so far so good standard turbo tho which = fail

The stock turbo seems to me matched to run out of puff where the stock fueling runs out, which makes sense really.
You can do what prof has done and bolt a bigger compressor housing onto the front, keeping the stock hotside :)
Stock intercooler will also be a problem over 0.7 bar which is where the stock turbo starts to get inefficient. Whilst both will run higher boost, the stock turbo life will be reduced as a result, and for both the intake charge temperatures are going to be high.
Higher charge temps means much less headroom against detonation.
Also, over 0.7 bar you must have some additional fuelling control - the stock ecu will just not do that with an FCD. Ironically it has tables for higher boost but the boost cut feature will never let it get there. I wouldn\'t trust the timing at higher boost either - even with aftermarket fuelling - if you don\'t run a chipped ECU, piggy back or standalone, you timing will be too advanced at the higher boost - and that again means detonation.
I\'d hate for you guys to learn the hard way....
ill just wait as there is plenty powers for doing skids just noe and will prob just get injectors turbo manifold etc all at the same time
My turbo as far as i know is completely standard,
i knew that things are going to get exspensive near the 1 bar mark,so for me to run anything near 1bar,im looking at-
fuel pump
fuel pressure regualtor
injectors
chipped ecu
boost controller
fmic
bigger rad
Allso is it possible to run a mild port/street port on standard injectors and fueling??

Yes you can - mild porting will be street porting. Might just give you a bit of an edge. With the porting - you can trim as much material as you want upto a point - and the more you port it the more rough the idle will become. The stock/chipped ECU will handle mild street port ok.
Cool thats what im looking at for next year,i was quoted £1800 for a port and rebuild.
As for the boost issue im going to buy a mechanical one for the time being and wind her down to around 0.7 to make sure she lasts till next year.
Bit of an update/bump ive recently put the waste gate arm back on the wastegate flapper enabaling the boost to reach 0.9 bar!
As a result ive taking the FCD out to stop any over boosting issues. She now safetly boosts to 0.5 bar.
I have a mechanical boost controller which i havent fitted yet and im wondering with the FCD out of the system could i some how wind the boost up with the controller to around 0.7 bar??
Or is there a way to wind the boost down from 0.9 bar with the FCD fitted??

£1800 port and rebuild! thats cheap!
i\'d assume its reusing the current housing and end plates, intermediate plate and new tips and side seals?
you might need to factor in a few hundred for some decent (used) housing depending what condition yours are in.
They have some refurbed housings in stock which they use with there rebuilds. The rebuild includes new pumps seals all round and im thinking of getting some unbreakable tips too.

The FCD won\'t regulate boost - so you should be able to set the boost with your manual boost controller.
All the FCD does is to lie to the ECU about the boost level, clamping it at 0.6 BAR (just before the fuel cut point) and therefore allows you to run higher boost without fuel cut. The problem with this is that the ECU won\'t be providing any extra fuel after that point - so the car will run increasingly leaner as the boost increases. You could go for small increases of boost above stock - but weigh up the risk.
The only real answer to running higher boost is some means of providing the extra fuel required, and eliminating the fuel cut - that means either a chipped ecu, piggy back fuel controller or full standalone.
Right okay,so what pressure do these wastegates dump at roughly?? Is there anyway of adjusting the wastegate so i can run my fcd and have it boost to around 0.7-0.8 bar? Just this fuel cut is the only way of me controlling the boost levels.
Im going to try and increase the actuator arm length and see if this will lower boost levels.
I just cant understand why the wastegate is opening at such a high boost level from stock lol.
Right,im looking to get a chipped ecu until i can afford better.
Which one would most suit my current mods best?Im looking to upgrade the fueling, cooling etc in the future but im after a quick soloution really.

I assume that these ecu\'s are all of a simular map??

Anyone know anything about these chips??
Oh yeah i reckon all those jdm ecu\'s are pretty much the same, and mapped for 100ron
\'\'You will be able to run your fc at 14.5 psi boost with this chip\'\'
On a standard intercooler and fuelling? lol
works out to 0.9bar??

:Santa
More like 1 bar i think
I bar on a standard interwarmer - ummm - it may well work - but I\'d hate to say for how long :Hammer
I\'d not go above 0.9 bar on a chipped ecu - I know that\'s workable as several of us have run chipped ecu\'s and getting that - but the stock intercooler isn\'t really geared for anything above 12 psi (0.75 bar), and the stock turbo is very inefficient at these higher boost levels.
Do you know of anyone running the ebay chip?

Everyone has stayed away from it and either got a knightsport chip like mine or an RE-A map lol
N374 is a knightsport unit (stock on some mazdas)
can be picked up for about £80.

I run a Blitz Access chip - it seems to work well with stock and upgraded turbo\'s and intercoolers.
However, I didn\'t push the engine over 1 bar until I got bigger secondary injectors and an Emanage Ultimate.
At the very least you can use the emanage to examine what the ecu is doing - what timing it\'s using, what fuelling and so on.
A lot of the chipped ecu\'s make more from the stock setup by tapping unused potential on the primary injectors.
Off boost and below 3700 rpm, the primaries do all the work - the secondaries are not used at all. Then when the secondaries do come on line, the stock ecu drops the primaries to 40% and does all the additional fuelling on the secondaries. The chipped ecu\'s stage more gracefully, by dropping the primaries less, then increasing both as boost/rpm increase.
The important point though, is that the timing is retarded more at higher boost levels - something the unchipped ecu isn\'t going to do.
Oh - by the way, I\'d be cautious about that RX01 chip - I think the jury\'s still out on it, but it\'s a copy (and possibly a corrupt one) of another vendor\'s code.
I have the piggyback fuel comp, boost gauge, wideband and walbro so i may go ahead and get the thing fitted as il know my afr\'s and boost pressure and dont want to hit fuel cut.
or i might sell the apexi safc save up a bit an get a pfc..:yes
Quote from: 1990_fc3s_t2;663166or i might sell the apexi safc save up a bit an get a pfc..:yes
just some warning, the AP eng pfc prices have gone through the roof! best to look for fd (92-95) pfc (£400-£450) and get a harness from banzai racing (about £100) :)
Im aiming to get one of these ebay ecu\'s soon so that should hopefully retard the timing enough.
What would be the next logical step for my car on the existing mods to make 0.9-1.0 bar.
3 inch from tub back
blitz dump valve
fuel cut defender
blitz air filter
boost gauge
manual boost controller
i\'d say, 3" downpipe and decat
yeah its about a 3inch all the way through now.
stock pipe is about 2 1/4" or 2 1/2".
i think hes put on a SS Autochrome full system ( so its 3 inch - i think )
sorry, im being blind and read wrong :(
i no speaka da enlish hehe :p
Grinder-yeah its an ss auto chrome 3 inch.By adding one of these blitz ecus will this retard the timing enough for me to run 0.9 boost on the mods i have listed above?
My car is boosting to around 0.8 bar and i need to sort something out before it dies lol.
.8 should be ok to be honest ( he says :D )
is that with the FCD still fitted ?
It\'s just about the same as mine then set up wise (see my sig). Mine has been like this for at least a couple of years now. I wouldn\'t worry too much just get a chipped ECU in and a FCD. Just don\'t go wacking the boost up and you\'ll be ok. The stock turbo isn\'t good enough to cope with anymore than about 0.8 bar anyway.
Oh my exhaust came out of the same factory as the SS Autochrome ones.
cool im gona buy a chipped ecu and see how it goes:) cheers for the help guys
