Thought that i would go and do some work on the 7 today as it was a nice day and she has been neglected over the winter
So i drained the fuel out of her as its been in ther for over a year
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p346/mooragerx7/rx7/DSC00488.jpg)
I dont think thats very good is it (http://www.exile-rotorsport.com/images/smiles/103.gif) that came out of the filter
Then cleand up the plugs toped up her water and checked oil put in a battery Cleaned and painted the battery tray and sorted a couple of bits of rust under the bonnet
Put new fuel in then turned the key hoping for her to fire into live but alas nuthing just turned over and over so checked got spark got fuel no grate so i now need a fuel pump (http://www.exile-rotorsport.com/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif)

Went down to reading an picked up another 12a
new engine after cleaning
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p346/mooragerx7/DSCF3616.jpg)
after more cleaning and a bit of painting

still got to polish the housings and paint a bit more
then need a new carb to get her running again but not a webber just yet as buying a house so ment to be saving money not wasting as kelly keeps saying

You certainly done some serious work there, the car is a credit to you.
By the way does this look familiar?

Its on my series 3 but the small wheel just makes the steering heavier.

Strange how they didn\'t make RHD cars with PAS.
I\'ve only ever seen left hookers with PAS and it\'s not interchangable.
Back in the day no one was used to cars with power steering but these days, most cars have it and people don\'t want to be without it.

It\'s amazing how good fb\'s are at hiding rust!
The 1st pics show a clean looking fb,the later pics the rust thats been found & sorted, all credit to you for sticking at it,most peeps would of given up & broken it for spares.

Quotemost cars have it and people don\'t want to be without it

I think it has a lot to do with tyres.
I use a 1988 B2200 pick up, this hasn\'t got power steering and was probably ok when it came out the factory.
However having fitted Mitsubishi Warrior alloys with wider tyres it\'s an absolute nightmare to park.
I\'ve been looking for a power steering rack before my arms give out.

That\'s about right John, the early fbs had narrower tyres but the later ones with 205\'s on are very heavy to steer at low speed and to park.

My daily driver, a XJR, has 255/40/18 P Zeros on it and you can\'t even turn the wheel without the engine running and the power steering working.

I once imported a pas set up for a 1st gen from a GSL-SE from the states, thinking that I could adapt it. You can\'t and it went in the skip. Cost me an arm to import it as well, very heavy + duty+ vat. Doh!

Ah right fair enough. I\'ve found a company in the US who still produce steel wheels with 110x4 and 114x4 stud pattern and some of the designs are pretty cool-like retro stock car style so I\'m thinking of going that route maybe. I like that you are keeping your wheel style retro I\'m not that keen on modern wheels on a 1st gen.

i dont like the new style wheels on them either nice simple ones do me (kinda like me i guess)
i remember a old set of steels dad had on his e49 charger back in nz they were a star shape i realy liked them
thb i like almost all old skool wheels not a fan of these massave 20" chrome rims and crap they are producing today

when to move the rx out of the garage to find all the tyres flat except one so pushed it out and changed all the wheels over to the ones that hold air
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p346/mooragerx7/rx7/Image009.jpg)

then moved on to the engine removal

so now its out and i can move onto tidying the engine bay before i drop the other 12a in

once the engine was out i noticed that then i turn it over it only turns about 3/4 of the way be for it locks solid so when iv got some time i will open it up and have a look

I might have lights and power but it\'s still only a garage - an upmarket one cause it is carpeted but still only a basic garage.
I too have a carport so I push JAZ out mainly to do medium to larger work on her there.  Would love a double or triple garage, convert into a workshop one end, a pit in middle, 4 poster ..... oh the dreams go on, shame the bak account doesn\'t.

my garage has got lights, heating and a pit but as we\'re out in the sticks, this is the time of year when the mice come in off the fields. Caught 12 of the things last week in there, after they chewed some sound deadening out of my project car. A couple of years ago, they chewed up a Recaro leather seat out of a Capri I was restoring.
I wouldn\'t mind them coming in for a warm if they didn\'t cause so much damage.
I reckon I could catch one on every trap each night at the moment, there seems to be loads of them.

Now some people might consider having your own critters as a benefit of living rural.  We are semi-rural (living close to the banks of the river dee) and have our own visitors.  Last year we had a visiting squirrel which built its drey behind the barge boards - ate part of the roof lining causing a leaking roof and damage to wall & ceiling.  But hey, if we lived close to chester zoo we could have had an escaped elephant in there - no only jesting guys.
Seriously, being fortunate to live where we are, one can only do ones best and take the relevant precautions to minimise such invasions but if some do get through the defences - well s**t happens I suppose.  Still not nice though.

Most Suppliers don\'t seem to be able to trace on computer before FC\'s. Probably because no computers as such in those days.

I don\'t think it\'s your reg that\'s wrong Michael, it is a correct 1984 plate. The DVLA hold certain sets of plates in reserve for Re-Reg cars coming back onto standard Reg when owners sell but keep their Private Plates. They also issue them for imports. Didn\'t we once figure your car was once a diplomatic import into Central London?

Wooooo, such a good feeling when it fires up for the first time isn\'t it! :):)

Have you had a timing light on her? Just the way she fires up kinda reminds me of how my 12a was starting when I had the timing a few degrees out. Looks like she\'s running fine, but might be worth a check to get the most out of it. :)

Also, I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed that front bumper. Have you any info on what it is or where I could get one?

There should be two small notches in the back edge of the front lower pulley. And theres a kinda pin siticking out of the front cover directly above the pulley. For stock timing you\'re looking to get the first (most clockwise) mark lined up with the pin at idle on the L1 spark plug. This is TDC. :)

Thats fair enough. If you have a change of heart and decide you don\'t like to look of it, you know who to talk to :P

I do like that fly by wire.....Declaration:- \'Any mods from standard Mr Moorage?\'

\'Ahemm, well yes, just a few little ones, like I pull on a wire to make it move\'....:driving

Love it.   Dave

cheers Steve ill have to look into that and see if i can find them if i do come to stage when i seel the kit you will be the first to know

Cliff would do but its a bit difficult to use throttle and steer and chage gear all at the same time using your hands although your hand does get a nice breeze on it :evillaugh

Steering wheel paddle gear change coupled with perhaps a twist throttle control - there, simple.

well mixed news in this post
got my throttle linkage fitted everything phoned up a mate who said he  had a spear mot slot today to fit the old girl in for a mot and check  over if i dropped it down yesterday so yesterday i finished all the bits  i had to do brakes clutch wiring Finnish putting on the kit changed the  wheels and tyres over
left home went and got some petrol then carried on my 10 mile journey  happy running although a bit of a miss from 5000 onwards then after 5  miles poof and water everywhere so i stopped and pulled over to the side  of the road to find the over flow pipe steaming away and my journey  over with suspected water pump failure as half the rad was cold as with  the heater matrix and coil cooler
so got her towed home and she is now back in the garage to let the trouble shooting Begin

although the road test did though up a couple of things you have to  remove the front bumper to be towed breaks are awful have to sort out a  vacuum for them and the left rear break is seized on

although with all thet it was good to driver her again so not all bad  (http://www.exile-rotorsport.com/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

im now the owner of a TAX\'d and MOT\'d rx7

also sorted the running issue too turned out that one of the coils was breaking down and not working as it should so replaced that then promply took it for its retest

after that broke the kit some more but good old cable ties to the rescue

now need to decide what im going to do with it either fix it or chop it down

this is the preposed cut down

Hey mick,

I\'m after the is trim bits that clip into the body not for the actual screen.. Or is this what\'s use - I think there is 3 each side to clip the stainless trims on..
Title: my 7 (work in progress)
Post by: mpk490p on May 24, 2012, 10:22:32 PM
The kit includes the clips for the pillor trims (3 each side) the others are for the bottom trim

Sweet - now to polish the trims or paint black hmmmmmm

And has anyone ever pulled there\'s off and had a rubber strip along the top strips???
Title: my 7 (work in progress)
Post by: mpk490p on May 25, 2012, 10:06:06 PM
IIRC this is a rubber strip on the back edge on the top strip and across the bottom of the lower one
