Are you running standard rims? I have 18s and run falkon 452. I couldn`t tell you if they handle any good cus my car hasn`t been driven in 3yr but apperently their suppose to be pretty good! LOL

I think as this thread shows http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51422  by the way it\'s been rumbling along for a year and a half, this is a question that you\'re never gonna get a definitive answer to. For everyone who says one brand is fantastic, there\'s gonna be another who\'ll say they\'re crap. To answer your question "which tyres to use" the only real answer is "good ones". Tyres do tend to be a case of you get what you pay for, so pick a reputable brand name rather than cheap Singapore rubbish made from recycled bakelite and teflon, and you won\'t go too far wrong

If you don\'t want to spend £100 a tyre there are usually wheels and tyres on fleabay :cool for a fraction to keep you rolling......

I\'m going to chip in my 2 pence worth, i\'ve used loads over the years and the only one that i would avoid are the p-zero\'s

A mate had P-Zero\'s on his skybus & they were super ....e in the wet!! now runs the Falken 452\'s I think they are & the wet grip is fantastic (also got these on my MR2 & rate them prety good)

But it all depends on how much cash you want to blow, how long you want them to last & how they perform in the wet! Correct me if I\'m wrong, but yoko advans are very good in all weather, but last about 50 yrds, but they will be the best 50yrds you will have,  then Bridgstone potenzas have good durability & stick prety well (mid range in price) then you have the likes of Nexan.... OK tyre if your straped for cash, last well, but can be a little unprodicatable on times!

Been a fan of Kuhmo tyres. Running KU15 on the FD and they are quite nice. Very Good in the dry and good in the wet.

If you go for stuff like 888\'s they are awesome in the dry but dangerous in the wet.

I\'m running kuhmo ku31 on the FB and seems to be good dry and wet but the power they have to put down is much less than the FD !

A lot of it depends on what you are going to use the car for. Mine\'s a weekend and trackday fun car, and I\'m running 888\'s and D01j\'s - wonderful tyres, but shocking in the wet. In the wet on track I use the MS01\'s that I have on my daily, which are shod with 225 T1R\'s all round, which I swear have more grip in the wet than the dry! cracking tyres, those.

If it\'s mostly road, then my observations are:
Eagle F1 GSD3 - Very good all round road tyres, fantastic grip wet and dry, but at the pricier end of the scale. Great on track. For about 100 years, after which they overheat, marble, and fall apart!
Now discontinued, so any you find will be old stock. Replaced with Eagle F1 Assymetric, which are supposed to be very good, but I haven\'t tried.
Falken FK452 - good in dry, not as good as F1\'s in the wet. However, better on track sessions - melt a bit after a while, but don\'t fall apart.
Toyo T1R\'s - Probably as good as the F1 wet and dry, but less prone to falling apart on track. Breakaway seems a bit more consistant than the F1\'s (which tend to have ultimately a bit more grip, go seem to go quite suddenly) and is a bit more progressive.

Others to consider (which I haven\'t dried) are P Zero Rosso\'s (very expensive though) and Kumho KU31\'s.
HTH :)

ive been told good year eagle f1\'s are good but i think im going for the toyo t1r which are good grip all round, they are for 255/35/18 on after market wheels , the toyo\'s are only 120+vat each which is a reasonable cost, thanks for your input guys......

On my FD I found the F1\'s to be very very good all round tyres and moving on to the RX-8 I fitted Falken 452\'s however I found they had no where near the feed back feel compared to the Bridgestone 040\'S that came off and I sold the Falkens on after just a few hundred miles and put Bridgestone\'s on again,

I did a trackday at Cadwell with the Falken\'s and found that whilst they only had 4 laps in them before they went off and needed cooling down again, but will say they didn\'t look bad every time I came off track,

However as I say they didn\'t give me a lot of feed back but having said that no straight road tyre is going to stand up to the rigors of any track driven hard,

All in all the Falkens aint bad if you don\'t want to pay big brand money, but if you can, the Goodyear would be my choice for the wet weather grip if nothing else and particualy if you drive a big horsepower rotary grip in the wet is real nice to have :Thumbsup!

Oh, and if I could fnd them, I\'d buy another set of Bridgestone RE070\'s - Awesome tyre, but pretty crap in the wet - very focused tyre that\'s pretty track orientated, but quite soft. So much grip though.

I was in Bedford three days ago and it was a rainy day. After three laps of hard use the tyres are still cold and can\'t find any decent grip! Had to give up and wait for the sun to come out in the afternoon.

Had to admit they are pretty crap when wet or cold. The thing with semi slicks is that they are next to useless until warmed up.

But let\'s ask ourself this: should we really drive a RX-7 aggressivly anywhere in rain?

For me the pleasure of really pushing an FD is usually in dry condition. I drive it like a pu$$y in the rain:3gears-rhno matter what tyres I have on my car:rollinSo for me it is R888s all the way.

Since we are on this topic, has any one tried A048 and RE55S on a FD? I am planning to wrap on one of those next year.

When im NOT flush its Falken 452\'s everytime for me, a perfect allround tyre.

The \'ring in the ....ing rain on 888\'s was... Exciting. I\'m trying to decide on a wet weather track/road tyre just now...
