Title: Engine wouldn\'t start
Post by: benson200sx on November 24, 2009, 01:59:04 AM
Alright guys, on Friday night I got pulled over by the police for speeding and they asked me to shut down the engine as they do and get in the car, after about 10 minutes I jumped back in the car and turned the ignition, it turned over but wouldn\'t fire up, I noticed there was a clicking noise behind the dash near the clocks but couldn\'t be sure on it\'s exact position, I didn\'t want to keep turning it over just in case I flooded the engine, I left it about 10minutes before trying again and the clicking noise had stopped and it fired up strait away, does anyone know what that could of been? Many thanks ben

Could be starter motor solenoid / starter motor, or the battery might be on it\'s way out.

In that case no - if it\'s turning over but clicking - that\'s something else.

Normally if the battery is run down, the starter won\'t crank and there is insufficient power to keep the solenoid on the starter engergised - so it chatters in and out.l

But if the starter turns the engine over ok, and you are hearing chattering relays / injectors, then it sounds like a different problem.

Fuel - Could have some kind of air lock in the fuel or it could be percolating when hot - causing vapor in the fuel rail - there is a vacuum cut relay that\'s suppose to prevent this from happening.  Waiting a few seconds and trying again normally does the trick though.

Spark ? -  pull the plug leads and see if you get spark when you crank it

Leaky injector - if it\'s an EGI (N/A model) they are well known for leaky injectors that can flood the engine and make starting a nightmare - you might have to do the deflood procedure - a quick search on here will tell you how.
