Title: removing power steering pulley
Post by: jackaleks on November 23, 2009, 09:27:00 AM
how the hell does this come off?

this weekend i even bolted the pulley to the chassis to stop it moving then went at the nut with a three foot bar. the little steel bracket i made started to bend and then the two holes in the pulley snapped.

is there a special tool for doing this? the mazda workshop manual seems to think it\'s as easy as gripping the pulley and using a normal socket wrench.

seen this: http://www.mini-madness.com/madness-ez-supercharger-pulley-removal-tool.aspx

does anyone know of anything similar?

Easy, double up the P/S belt opposing another pulley wheel and make it tighten up against itself in the loosening direction. The frictional contact between the belt and the P/S pulley should be so great (harder you twist the greater the normal force against slip) that the nut should come undone without issue, with a big enough breaker bar of course.
