hey guys, not sure if ive posted this in the right place or not, but here goes.
im thinkin of buyin a rx7 as a second car, for summer and weekends maybe, but was wondering how much they are to tax, is it the £35 ive been told, or because off the co2 emissions its closer to £200 odd??
Pre 2001 cars above about 1600cc, or thereabouts, are taxed here at £190, (and the RX7 is rated at 2300cc for 1st generation, 2600cc for later generations).
So yes, closer to £200.
Some people have declared the displacement rather than power to DVLA when they\'ve swopped engines. The displacement on a rotary is only half the power rating used by DVLA when the cars were new. People have therefore got away with 1150cc or 1300cc, which is where your different advice is coming from. I would say don\'t bank on it working for you and assume £190. Unless you feel lucky that is.
I assume Northern Ireland is similar.
Hope that helps.
mine is registered on the v5 as a 1300 cc and i get cheap tax is like 68 quid for 6 months
Yep mine to 1300 cc £120 for 1 year....sweet!
there are so many threads on this, i think the outcome of all of them is that Mazda have agreed with the DVLA that the 13b is 2600cc for tax purposes, despite the fact that the actual swept volume is only 1396cc (something like that anyway).
to be honest, £200 is still cheap for a car that puts out more CO2 than 90% of everything else on the road.

combined!!
The government closed the loophole for imported rotaries in 2001, so if you import after that you WILL be registered as a 2616cc and pay higher tax. If you were imported before and you were lucky enough to get it - you will be registered as a 1300cc and get cheap tax!
Warning though - some people have had letters randomly from the DVLA saying that they are changing theirs without warning. I changed my logbook last year and somehow got away with it!
on my 2nd RX7 & both taxed at 1300cc even when i transferred personal plates over :Thumbsup!
My 20b is registered as a 1.3 !!! hehe
At my garage they are about 50/50 1.3\'s to 2.6\'s,but there is one out there,
(and you know who you are), that is registered on ONE rota, 658cc, mega
cheap TAX. :Giggle
Dave
My car is a 90t2 1308 in the v5 (I want cheap tax?):Giggle:Giggle:Giggle:Giggle:Giggle
Should i ring the dvla and say there is a mistake on my v5 will they change it??
Something tells me im not going to get anywhere!
:3Confused:3Confused

Need some welding doing first because ive got a pretty big hole in the passenger footwell right along the seam? im sure you know which bit i mean!
Id rather pay and get it done well as the previous owner has welded quite thick plates badly underneath.
Looks a mess after i ripped all that crap metal and filler off the floor!!:2eek

Thanks Peter, oh right so other than changing the engine in the car & notifing dvla there is no other way of changing the cars engine capacity, anyone know?
