Are these prone to snapping? I noticed the other day that my passenger door handle was a bit stiff whilst trying to open it, worried that it would break off in my hand! Maybe some WD might do the trick?
Yes, they are prone to snapping. WD might help, but ideally you wanna get in from behind (oooer) to free up the mechanism properly. There are alloy ones some guy in the States does, but they ain\'t cheap!
Cheers, i\'ll give that a go and start fishing about for a spare for the inevitable then!
right im confused, my fd has metal exterior handles? even the bit you pull is metal?
I\'m sure mine are plastic. Gonna have to go and have a look now....
....yep, deffo placcy!
Pretty sure mine are plastic too...
Think the later cars are plastic, but I know most of them are cast alloy.... they normaly break during the winter in the cold weather ;) What I have found is that the handle returnes too far & it\'s on the wrong side of the cam so to speak.... if you lift the handle you will see a small drilling in the back plate, if you can put a rubber spacer in that, it acts as a stopper for the handle and allows it to move freely ;) spacer needs to be about 3mm IIRC??

mine\'s a \'92?
as jono said there is supposed to be a small rubber \'bump stop\' to stop it going in to far,and breaking
I broke mine this week and it was a cast one, i forgot i\'d locked it . I obviously don\'t know my own strength!

Could be a randome thing then, as mine is a 92 & has cast alloy ones

I thought that the bit you pulled was always plastic (although the surround is metal), and the reason they fail (well for me anyway this weekend, as I discovered after I fitted the new one yesterday) was that the plastic arm wears away so that it doesn\'t engage the metal spring loaded arm which then pulls the lever which goes down itno the door to work the lock (Phew!)
so, I saw these the other day and wondered if anyone had had experience with the handles or the supplier, seems like an excellent idea................

That\'s the guy I was thinking of, who I mentioned in my first post!

Hate you! :p :Giggle Feel inadequate about my feeble placcy effort now :(
Hi Nik, hope all\'s well with you!
you\'re right they ain\'t cheap but getting a new one from Mazda is the same price (actually a bit more) than getting two ally bits (he quotes £125 for UK)....
although it would be a bit of a b*gger to do as you\'d have to take the whole mechanism apart and it\'s a tad fiddly, although of course I\'ve got one to practice on now!
all the best

**rubs hard metal handles**
Hey Mark! yeah, it probably is a pretty comparable price to Mazdas\', I hadn\'t thought of it like that. I\'ve taken the approach of buying a spare handle every time one floats by cheap on eBay, so hopefully my stockpile will last a few years :rollin
You\'re a bad man, Mr Malice :D
The other option is to get some off a car that\'s being broken on here ;)

I can get JKL ones for £115 delivered if anyone wants a set... JKL offer a lifetime gaurantee
i just broke my p s one this morning. ....ing ragen.
I broke both of mine in the same week (had to get into the car via the boot). Very straight forward to replace. I bought the replacement from Mazda main dealer garage down south but I can\'t remember the one, and for a change they were very helpful and knew a bit about FD\'s.
Bourne Road Garage in Crayford, Kent are v good and will give you a discount if you mention MRC
