Good evening chaps im kind of a noob here and SLOWLY learning a little about these cars!
I have got myself a few bits an i dont really want to blow up my engine, not just yet anyway!
*an ebay special turbo back exhaust
*walbro fuel pump
*k&n drop in panel filter
*apexi safc (i have a fair idea how to use!)
*FCD
*prosport amber boost gauge
and i plan on adding an innovotive wideband kit to the mix.
The car hasnt been driven for about a year and im getting it ready for next year, So plenty of time, Which is good as it needs plenty of work, welding brakes paint ect
Do i need to port the w/g? (dont really want to take the turbo off)
Do i need bigger injectors?
Also do i need a boost controller?
Im going to do a full 60k tune up and get new tyres, rad hoses and got a braided clutch line.
Have i missed anything critical or any opinions on additions to my list would be great!
Many thanks guys,
Mark:Thumbs-up
Sorry forgot to say its a stock 1990 t2 with 55,000 miles!
Doh then i read my title!!!!
ARG! I just wrote a long post and it hasn\'t posted up :( typical!
Welcome in mate :D
Damn just realised i posted this in the wrong section!
No mate, this is about right :) its a 2nd Gen FC3S :)
to be honest with that spec - you might get away with the stock ECU and the FCD
it wont be running mega power that would need injectors etc..
BUT you can tune the car with the SAFC and it will support 720cc secondaries ( i have a SAFC and did some research - just never fitted the thing ! )
Stu
Hi and welcome ! :cheers
Spec seems good.
Depending on how free flowing the K&N filter is, and the exhaust is, you may get a little boost creep. If you do much more to the intake of the turbo you will definitely get boost creep so you\'ll need to port the wastegate at that stage to play it safe.
Boost Controller - not a bad idea - and then you\'ll have to use the FCD with that setup. I am not a great fan of FCD\'s as they basically tell the ECU that the boost is 8psi when it can be that much higher - consequently fuelling will be lower than it should be. You can adjust this with your SAFC - but as I understand it they modify the airflow signal and so also adjust the timing.
A wideband is a worthwhile addition to your setup - the Innovate one is a good choice.
You can probably expect mid to high 200\'s with that lot.
has the engine been used alot? I\'d just run it a bit before upping the boost.
You can take the boost up to 0.9 bar before you\'ll need new injectors. Though i\'d still make sure the fuel system is all good, and replace all the filters.
not sure what the apexi does? is it a piggy back fuel computer? if so, i\'d probably look into a chipped ecu with a map for 0.9 bar of boost, these usually include getting rid of the fuel cut so you wont need an FCD.
also make sure the walbro is real, heard a few reports about dodgy ones.
other than that, welcome to the club! sounds like you\'re going about stuff the right way
just to add.... where are the pics ????????? :D
Great stuff so il just keep a close eye on my boost gauge! Thanks guys:)
I tried taking some pics but you cant swing a cat in my garage so this was the best i could do!
Scratch that im not a full member an cant upload pics!:3Confused
I was a member years ago i think in about 2003? just before the rx8 came out i believe. anyway will i be able to renew my membership for £25 or will i have to pay £30?

WOW I honestly have never seen a white TII coupe before :D Why have you got a red EGI as well? :D
the ebay exhaust caused me mega boost creep so i would port the wastegate if you can
Ive had the egi for about 8 years now its been sat for probably half of that because it failed its mot on quite a few things.
Mainly rust damage on the floor and the exhaust is non existant, it had big holes repaired with body filler and needed lots of bodwork i just couldnt do or wasnt willing to spend over a grand to get it done.
So i bought the t2 for £950 and stripped any useable parts of the egi and its sadly going to the scrap yard (eventually)
There is quite a lot of stuff i dont need like the dash for instance if anyone needs anything let me know.:)
I really dont want to take the turbo off, but i know i should do it as its only going to cost as much as the price of the burr drill bits
I might wait and see if i creep!
nice TII, well the rear corner looks nice lol
if u have some spares then i can do with the gear stick qurround plastic thingie if its in good condition. i know its quite hard to loose that bit but i have managed to.. well, be in a position to require another lol
Yeah iv got it and it looks in pretty good nick.

I have a fully ported turbo with 360 degree thrust bearings and its all been rebuilt, when I get a new turbo, this will be up for sale, so if you can live with the unported turbo for a while, you could buy my stock one off me when the time comes :)
Plus where the hell did you get an awesome white TII for £950? it looks mint!
You\'ve had a new tub for ages mitch. You finaly sticking it on?
That tii looks pretty clean. You thought about breakng that egi?

I swapped that garrett for a roll cage lol :) its was \'only\' a Garrett T04 :P im going for a Garrett GT4088 or a turbonetics T60-1 :)
I bought if off ebay from some kid who couldnt afford the insurance (or maintenance)
The body is a bit tatty worst around the sunroof and the top edge of the windscreen and the seats ripped in the usual spot.
The engine oil was black as is the brake fluid also the clutch was down to rivets and needs new tyres.
I still think it was a bargain though!!
m1tch, How much would you be looking for the turbo??
dthebuk, What do you want? Got most parts except exhaust, im keeping doors, bumpers, fuel door, bonnet release, most things i may one day need for the t2.
i\'ve got a spare good clutch kicking around if u need a stock clutch?

Cheers but thankfully iv already done it. Probably have to do it again soon though because i didnt get the flywheel machined (it has a few tiny hairline cracks in) change the pilot bearing or any of the seals which should be changed.
So il expect to have to it again properly soon!
Heard good things about act clutches for fc\'s on rx7club.com

Check out that other thread called \'clutch options\' that carbo-metalic paddle organic hybrid one prof has seems to be a really good clutch, holds the power and doesn\'t have that on/off feel of a paddle. I have sold my clutch already, else I would offer you it :)
Or you could ask JM garage for an awesome £1200 he is selling for £600 :) lol
The cars not going anywhere for a good while so im going to see how it goes when i take it for MOT in march or april.
The kit i got came with an exedy pressure plate, koyo bearing and nippon disc i think.
It owes me £200ish so i hope it lasts a couple of months at least!!!
The flywheel will have to come off next time and im really not looking forward to that!:2Mad

You need a 54MM flywheel socket - I have one you can borrow if you need it.
Also note that you can use an FD flywheel :) if you get a lightened one you need an FD auto counterweight :D
Cheers!
My mates a farmer and has a massive socket set that looks like its meant for a giant!
Its that pilot bearing you need a puller to get it out, I think thats where im going to have trouble.
When i did the clutch i stuck my finger in the hole;) and it felt nice and smooth but i gave it a little grease anyway.
When it goes next time do you recommend an fd flywheel then? or just get mine machined?
Thanks again for such a warm welcome:Party

Im going for an FD lightened flywheel as prof found out the hard way that the stock flywheel might have a lip in it, so when you put a new clutch plate on there, it doesn\'t fully contact.
Here is my socket:

It depends on what your flywheel is like, it might be easier to get a 2nd hand one that is in good condition, then it would be quicker to swap out as you don\'t have to take it out and then get it machined.
Make sure that you use the clutch tool to align it all, else it will alll have to come back out again :rollin
I made a clutch tool out of a wooden broom handle cut down and forced it though the old disc to get the splines. bit crude but it worked!
Done a bit of reading about joining up again so il wait till jan and get a full year. Think i only got 4 months worth of newsletters last time round! (didnt have internet) lol
Double post better go to bed!
you dont need a puller for the spigot bearing just pack the centre hole with grease and find a punch that is a snug fit and give it a wack with a hammer and the pressure of the grease behind the bearing will force it out
