Title: Replacement front screen
Post by: Ric on May 04, 2004, 02:08:25 PM
I picked up a nice golf-ball sized crack in my front windshield last week. Got cover on my insurance providing I get it sorted by AA autoglass but the bloke there is having difficulty sourcing a replacement.

It\'s for a \'95 import FD (i.e. has the graded blue sun shield bit at the top)

Anyone got any details I can pass on? I\'ve given the bloke Geoff and Jimmy\'s numbers but every time he\'s phoned he hasn\'t been able to get through.

Took rac autowindscreens about a week to sort mine out last autumn so I don\'t know what the problem is.  The guy who runs the lower sydenham branch should be able to point them in the right direction - if he\'ll help the competition!

Had mine done by Autoglass in Corby last summer.
Was told at the time that is was the last one left in the country.
Had to get it shipped down from bonnie scotland!
All covered with insurance (except the obligatory £50 surcharge)

I\'ve been waiting for mine for around a month now from RAC windscreens. The first one that turned up was a blue tint. Apparently I have a bronze tint with a sunscreen at the top.
I\'ve not heard anything for week now - I must give them a ring.

Autoglass were telling porkies.

From current Mazda Parts Catalog

FD31-63-900 9D    259.55 + VAT

The 9D is for the latest windscreen, the original number without the 9D suffix has been superceded.

Cheers,

Richard

I dont understand why people have to talk cr4p!   One night, my wife got pulled over because the taillights on the 323 were not working. So, the police call the AA, who send some guy from the local garage who tells her:

"This is the 6th Mazda Ive gone to tonight with faulty taillights"

Obviously cr4p.What for?

He couldnt even fix them, anyway, she drove home with the fog light on.

That price and part number was for a UK supplied FD, so perhaps they imported a JDM screen with different tint, and that does cost £600 ???

Seems a heck of a difference for a different colour tint to the glass if that was the case.

Well AA autoglass called me back today. They have been onto Mazda who have informed them that they don\'t seem to have the part in stock.... ANYWHERE in the UK. Apparently they [Mazda UK] are now contacting Mazda Japan so I guess it could be awhile!

So AndyRose - it sounds like you may well be right!!

I hope noone else gets a cracked screen!

Hi,

When you do get your new screen, I would be interested in the part number for the import spec screen.

I picked up a bullsye in the screen last year, Autoglass did a reasonable job of repairing it, but one day it might decide to crack.

Can\'t believe Mazda has let parts stock run so low, are they simply ignoring all the imports when deciding what stock to hold?

Cheers,

Richard
