Title: HKS racing muffler??
Post by: wiggy on May 04, 2004, 02:07:51 PM
Hi all

Has anyone got or had experience with a HKS racing muffler on their rex? I know these are only supposed to be used on racing application cars and are not designed for road use so would the HKS silent high power muffler be a better choice??

Only diff I can see between the 2 is the racing is 102mm diameter pipe and the other is 75mm. And the racing only has 1 silencer and the other has 2.

Just wanting to get some tech info on how these cars flow gas. My old car was only a 2ltr and needed a 3" system to breath right so I\'m thinking the rex will need a larger diameter?

Thanks

With most turbo charge cars the quicker you can exit the exhaust gases the better the power figure should be. This is to allow the exhaust turbine to spin freely with a constant flow of passing gas. So the 102mm should be fine.
If you ever get the chance to look at Porsche GT race car there exhaust is about 10 inches long and has 1 90 degree bend.
Very load!!!!.

Cheers, this was my view also and the bigger the better to get them gases out quick. I just wan\'t too sure if the Rotary had some quirky exhaust thing? Obviously not :D

Noise isn\'t a prob from my point of view as the car will only be a weekender, performance after all is everything :D

Thanks

On the noise front if you are going to go to track days you will need some form of noise restricter, Think they come with one but not to sure.

Rotary engine have less restriction than a piston engine on the exhaust side of things, this is due to the lack of valves and the same applies for the inlets as well.
