Title: Series 2 (project/parts) offered free to good home
Post by: Moskvich on November 05, 2009, 01:56:54 AM
Hi all,
Shame that this is my first post on this forum, and that it could well end up being my last as well!

I’ve got a silver series 2 (Y reg, 105k miles) in south London that has been sitting forlornly outside for some months, and I’ve admitted to myself that I have neither the patience nor the spare cash to so anything with it. So rather than just phone up the scrappers, I thought I’d offer it on here to anyone who wants it. Would be nice if it could come in useful to an enthusiast who could make use of it or maybe even keep it on the road. If you can collect it, you can have it.

It actually does have an MoT at the moment, though that expires on the 18th of this month. It’s taxed till the end of the month.

It had an engine rebuild very few miles ago at Rx motors in Dorset, but hasn’t been driven or run for several months. When I did last drive it, the engine seemed to have developed a tendency to cut out under braking (though it would restart). Why that was I never discovered, but the car would need to be recovered rather than driven away.

The bodywork has the usual issues - wheel arches are in a pretty sorry state, and I think there’s a fair amount of rust underneath.

Any questions or interest, please let me know. Questions should be non-technical however, as I’m afraid I haven’t really got a clue! If I can’t see it from the outside I don’t know what it is, so no point asking me anything difficult…

Hope someone here might be able to put it to good use in one way or another.

Cheers,

Stephen

It cant really run very far or at all? It will have to be trailored I imagine?

Very interested, and its very kind of you to give it away I must say!

edit:If you could provide any details on where the car is kept, that would be wicked. Just asking around some firms for shipping quotes. Would be an awesome project!

Yes, Yes, sorry Stu, late up and about this morning.:2eek

Hi Stephen, the reason for the wakey wakey message is because I keep a register of all known 1st Gen cars, both running and SORN and also a file of cars that have been scrapped.

I might have got your car registered but without the Reg I don\'t know.
Would you be able to let me have that? If you don\'t want to post the Reg up on the internet would you be able to email me on dgnock at btopenworld dot com?

As others are saying it\'s very kind of you to offer the car on the club.

Regards  Dave

I\'m pretty sure there\'s no way round trailering it at the moment. That\'s not to say that you might not be able to get it running fine without much difficulty, just that it\'s unlikely that I will before it needs to go. It\'s in SW16.

I certainly hope that it\'s some of value to someone here and that it turns out to have been kind of me to give it away! I feel a bit guilty for neglecting her, I enjoyed driving her for a while and feel bad about letting her just sit there looking sad, so I\'d like her to go to a better home... But the main thing for me at the moment is just that it doesn\'t cost me any money later this month, since I don\'t have anywhere to put it off the road.

Will be checking back here regularly, so leave an email address or something if you\'re interested.

I\'ll be emailing David now, so he\'ll have my email address as well, and can pass on my contact details to interested members.

Cheers.

Stephen,

I guess I may have missed the boat, but if it helps to raise the stakes a little I would love the car - my Elford Turbo MK1 will breathe it\'s last very shortly and I\'m really keen on a replacement.

I have a trailer and can pick it up tomorrow morning from anywhere in London.

Let me know.

Thanks Jon and one and all. Got Jon\'s email and found that I had his car on the Register but it was a good few hundred miles away. All relocated now...and keep it up you guys.

David,

FYI - Car now safe and sound at my house. When I get a clear few hours I\'ll give her a proper going over to see where we are and whether she\'s a possible driver or not, but she fired and ran and drove on the trailer with no huge drama.

Certainly bodywork imminent, but obviously unsure about the more structural parts until I start lifting trim and getting her on some stands.

Stephen, many thanks again.

Stacy
