Title: 4 Wheel Alignment
Post by: davefrith on May 04, 2004, 09:03:54 AM
Morning

Before driving to Cornwall on Sat I noticed the inside edge of my front tyre was wearing a bit, having come back it definitly needs changing ! :eek:

Given the inside edge was wearing more, I reckon a 4 Wheel Alignment Check is needed, has anyone had this done near the Buckinghamshire area ?

Are there any special settings for the FD or do they just check all the wheels are straight  ? :)

Any help appreciated

Dave

Probably a bit far for you really but I had full four wheel laser alignment done by Elite in Dagenham. They have a very professional setup there and have all the recommended settings for different vehicles listed on their computer system.

I can dig out the printout from my last visit if you like which has the settings for mine on it.

I don\'t mind driving if the place is gonna do it right

Are there special setting then for the FD or do they not matter when you have aftermarket suspension and wheels ?

I don\'t know to be honest as I\'m not a suspension guru! I think Pip at WGT is supposed to be quite clued up on FD aftermarket suspension.

When I went to Elite they asked what car I had. When I replied it was a 3rd gen RX7 the bloke seemed to know his stuff and said "There is quite a few different adjustments so we\'ll do a full diagnostics check first". They came back with a printout stating what was wrong/right and then asked me what I wanted doing. Not being an expert and having stock setup I justed asked to have it set as Mazda intended. Certainly seemed to do the trick though as it felt like a new car afterwards.

cool, well I have just found my tyre at £135.00 all in
and the place can do a alignment check and they are just down the road

got quoted any thing from £100 to £200 for the tyre though !!! prices seem to vary a lot !

Cheers for the suggestions, will see how this place gets on tomorrow

Thanks

Just found my old printout - my scanner isn\'t running at the moment so I\'ll give you the limits:

" is for degree symbol by the way...

Left Front camber: 0"51\' -> -0"39\'
Right Front camber: -0"39\' -> 0"51\'
Left Front toe: -0"05\' -> 0"11\'
Right Front toe: 0"11\' -> -0"05\'
Total Front toe: -0"10\' -> 0"22\'
Steer ahead: -0"03\' -> 0"03
Left Rear Camber: -0"28\' -> -1"58\'
Right Rear Camber: -1"58\' -> -0"28\'
Left Rear Toe: -0"05\' -> 0"11\'
Right Rear Toe: 0"11\' -> -0"05\'
Total Rear Toe: -0"10\' -> 0"22\'
Thrust Angle: -0"06\' -> 0"06\'

Hope that helps.

For the record I think Elite was about £550 for four Eagle F1\'s + balancing + full four wheel alignment.

Only complaint was that they used crappy clip on weights (probably because that\'s what was on my wheels before) so I\'d advise anyone to specify proper stick on weights which don\'t feck up your alloys.

But I\'d like to go soonish as I\'ve just put new fronts on mine

Bedford is in Bedfordshire, which neighbours Northamptonshire and Buckinhamshire, infact it\'s not TOO far from Milton Keynes M1 exit

Not sure - certainly for all FD\'s upto \'96 I would imagine. You could try giving Elite a call as they might be able to tell you on the phone... //www.elitedirect.com

Ok dave that\'s cool but do be aware, if it has aftermkt suspension most (if not all) normal tyre places won\'t touch it as they won\'t have the crap they need to (i.e. lases) hehe

garages I asked just said they wouldn\'t touch it. Said it needed to be laser aligned as the ride height affects the settings and so on.. These aren\'t the places that usually turn a quick buck away either :(

..I dunno I just thought sod ya

we should have a wheel alignment meet ;)

I\'m off to the tyre place later today so we\'ll see what they say. Last time I had one done on another car they put clamps on the wheels which is not going to happen with the Rex ! :)

Right, i\'ve been, they fitted the tyre but couldn\'t do the alignment as they didn\'t only have settings for the std car.

Andy, did you ask STS if they could definitly do our cars with their aftermarket wheels and supsension ?

Dunno if they\'ll have space for sat now you could try em and if they do squeeze me in :D

Right, we are both booked in for 11am on Saturday. They\'ll do one after the other and low cars etc aren\'t a problem. The lady didn\'t know how they\'d do it in terms of settings but she didn\'t forsee any problems

That cool with you ?

that\'s great stuff dude, yeah fine with me... have to talk about meeting up somewhere easy so I can guide you down there. From what I remember it\'s round the back of an old vauxhall garage and not easy to find... plus we can do some pimping round town lol

I confused that lady yesterday and she put me on to the bloke who said they had all the settings for the rx7 in his computer and wouldn\'t be a problem hehe :D

that\'s bloomin miles away from Bedford haha

Well from the snowdome you need to follow all the signs for bedford. If you follow it past the m1 turning (jct 13) you\'ll go through a lil village thing and there a little stretch of duel carridgeway.. there\'s a lil chef and total petrol station there.. thats kinda half way.. meet ya there if you want :D

That way you can look out for me :D
