I am looking into buying this turbo with all the ancillaries for my fd, as soon as funds permit.
Does anybody have advice on this turbo, price, horse power figures? (i have large extended ports on my fd, may have some more porting done at some point, full brige port or maybe monster port????) where to purchase these from, and also equivalent turbos?
Cheers
Try www.rx7store (http://www.rx7store) they do it for 2000 dollars with all the ancelleries (cant spell). Don`t know how much they charge for international shipping and then there`s customs to worry about. Don`t know how laggy these turbos are but 500+ ponies should be a peice of pi**. Speak to blitzboy he`ll have more knolledge.
I bought my gt4088 from rx7store 5 months ago came my total bill was £2,500 but that was including other items duty was £103 I think delivery was around £75. I bought it with another member and the original del was £150 for 2 kits but this was reduced to £100.
The manifold is as kermin put it and ebay special. The gasket between the manifold and the turbo failed (partly my fault as I fitted a new exhaust to reduce the noise and didn\'t fit one of the hangers correctly) and the oil feed line was way too long. Otherwise good kit full boost by 4K on large street, starts developing boost by 2k. Comes with screamer pipe that it very .... i think fun other say f**king loud.
Is your single a ballbearing type? What fuel injectors have you got?

i have seen them on the rx7store but never looked in detail. am i right in that the gt4088 is the ball bearing turbo, which was specially designed for racing applications and not just a truck turbo, and not the journal bearing turbo?
I have also seen a gt4094? do these cost even more?!!
As for loudness, i am not fussed however loud it is even if the neighbours do. Especially when me (Grant Monkhouse) and my dad have got another project in the back garden which is going to have a 13b PP in it, So i think brap brap loudness comes to mind.

500+ ponies at the wheels or flywheel?
Also would the two 1680cc injectors i have in my fd be more than enough for the larger turbo? personally i would want to stick another two in there just for fun, if possible.
would a water and methanol injection get rid of lag, and obviously theintercooler?
Why don\'t you ask Carl dickhead? (Grants dad here peeps)!!!! And no, I\'m not going to take the intercooler out.Luv, Dad.
There is an online ebay shop selling the GT4088, I think the store name is GT3 turbos, I would keep the stock primaries, uprate the secondarys.
Water and meths will reduce detonation so you can run at a higher power without damage, it won\'t \'get rid of lag\', if the intercooler pipes are short and the correct bore, that will reduce the lag, as well as having a ported block.
Don\'t read about this turbo on piston based engines, a rotary produces a HUGE amount of exhaust from a smaller space, so can spool big big turbos :)
if you are talking or reducing lag and ditching the intercooler with water/meth, do you mean running pretubo?
Quote from: marco;651987if you are talking or reducing lag and ditching the intercooler with water/meth, do you mean running pretubo?
Would it have to be? I dont know much about turbos and water/methanol injection, which is why i am asking for peoples advice.
I would normally ring and ask carl about stuff like this as he built my engine and mapped it, however he is a busy man and dont like to interupt him by ringing him up.
I am also better at taking information in by reading it than on the phone.

i only assumed that it would get rid of lag as the distance the air flow travel is reduced?? (Im learning loads here cheers)
What sort of PSI increases can you get by having water/methanol injection? Assuming this is what you mean by running at higher power?
there is a load of info on rx7club.com about running with water/meth, best bet is to trawl through it all. with regards to running preturbo, there still appears to be a bit of conjecture about what it does and does not do, I am planning on running it once my car is rebuilt, i will elt you know how i get on! in the meantime if you want to send me PMs asking questions then feel free, i admit i dont know all the answers, but i might no where you can find them!

is anybody running the gt4094? if so what is like? how much did it cost etc?
A GT4088 is good enough for crazy power, good for well over 500bhp if mapped properly, don\'t think you will need to go bigger! I know there is a drag racing rx running twin GT4088s, 1 per rotor, but thats just crazy power :D

are there any videos of this beast?
A-spec do some nice stuff. Not the cheapest though !

How much is ceramic coating out of curiosity? Does it reduce engine temperatures substantially?

My gt4088 isn\'t a BB version thats the gt4088r. I\'m still on Mkivsupra.net and there have been alot of failures of the gt4088r on supra recently. As the FD exhaust temp are higher the the 2JZ engine I decided against the BB version.

850 primary and 1600 secondary. Order the injectors fuel rail, FPR, pump (Bosch 044) and Ignition amp all together. Had a nice big box delivered :)
this is just to take my post count to 100 :)

the gt4088 is a lot cheaper then? i have seen them for around 700 quid. (whereas the 4088r is a lot more expensive) brand new that is, and the complete kit for around 2000. Would ceramic coating help with cooling stuff down?
I only want the 4088r as it starts spooling 1000rpm earlier?

If you have any kind of porting the extra for the BB isn\'t worth it 3rd Gear pulls on mine I\'m in positive boost by 2k. So that would mean your developing boost from tickover, you\'ll be on first name terms with all the local Petrol station. The money I saved getting the 4088 over the 4088r I bought a Vmount setup.

I have got a front mounted intercooler that has to be mounted before putting the front bumper on whch could be a pain in the arse if i ever needed to take it out. Also running the standeard radiator, new shiny aluminium ones are 500 quid

Ceramic coating not only reduces heat soak within the engine bay, but also keeps the heat inside both the turbo and manifold.
In answer to your question...the heat is reduced by up to 40%
We offer a wide range of coating:
Manifold: £135
Downpipe: £129
Exhaust Housing: £126
Lower Inlet Manifold: £125
The above items are priced in Performance white, except the LIM which is done using an aluminium thermal coating. This offers a reflective barrier as well as a thermal barrier. Colours are also available for roughly an extra £6 per item.
I would not bother with the R for the price you only gain about 300rpm quicker spool than with the non ball bearing, which can be made to spool plenty quick with the right porting and tuning

I also have large extended ports which carl did say would make my car un-driveable with the set up i have but it is quite manageable, it is the heavy duty clutch i have in that requires an elephants weight to use it, however now i have replaced the rear suspension it is more manageable at low rpms

300rpm for something that costs nearly double? someone is making a lot of money there!!!
with the journal bearing turbo you require a larger oil feed than that of the ball bearing turbo? How is this linked into the engine oil system?

Not sure that i said that quite.
I think i was refering to something else at the time.(Maybe in jest)
The Ball bearing turbo is a great bit of kit in my opinion. Spool up depends on more than just tune, turbine A/R\'s also are involved as is exhaust flow, porting of exhaust and inlet and a whole lot more.
I generally find that a BB turbo will spool alot earlier than plain bearings.

Carl

Yes we might have been talking about someting else, was quite a long time ago now since we discussed the engine over the phone for the first time so may have got confused.
Being a bit thick here but what are A/R\'s?. Will give you a ring tomorrow if you are not too busy about what you think? wont be buying this turbo soon but in the near future, as i want more poke in my car, it is more than fast enough but more is always better??
Need to ask you about my twins aswell as regards of passing oil? Did you say they were a bit worn when we went over to steves place?
I was quoting like for like turbos ie the same size the 2 turbos went on the same car back to back, i would only use bb on large frame turbos, there not worth the cost and small gain imho

I was hoping that you wouldn\'t ask about the temps as I haven\'t fitted it yet. In my excitment on getting new shinny parts I dropped the intercooler on the rad :Grrrputting a hole in it. Only a small one I filled the rad to make sure it wasn\'t damaged but there\'s a small leak and that\'s under no pressure.

that is terrible news, im sure there will be someone out there that can fix or part exchange for a replacement? is the intercooler ok though? Can you get them pressure tested to find out?
Just to put my 2p in, I had a chat to James at JM garage, who has spoken to universal turbo about turbos on rotaries, its apparently best to go with a non BB turbo due to the heat generated in the exhaust of a rotary, which is good news as non BB turbos are cheaper :D
Is there actually any difference bhp figures for the 4088 and the 4088R?

The intercooler i got was 250, it is front mounted, off of ebay from someone call 2fast2cool i think, it is quite big and fits in easy enough behind the bumper, dont think it would fit behind the standard bumper though. When sat in traffic, the air temps never go above 45 C. Im sure if you give Clive a ring he would sort you out with a fuel pump,

Hi there, what was it like? does it look ok? Im looking at getting mine from GT3 as they are selling the non BB sort.
Looks good. quite a heavy lump lol.
Cant fault GT3 all arived etc. not the quickest ever delivery but was reasonable.
I got it as it was recomended by Jaydee and Kerim. i have had the engine ported with a large street port. so should spool it up just fine.

Could you post up the ebay link so i could have a look? cheers.
The manifold is a TopSpeed one (China Stuff I guess)
it\'s a T4 divided. I had to open up the bolts in het flange (to motor) a bit but apart from that.. no
When the turbo is on, the cold side (snail) is VERY near to the wheel well. but with a bit of fiddling (Dremel) or a good hamer punch it can be fixed.
Other than that, no issues. I plan to have some reinforcements added just for peace of mind

It was Kerim that build my large street port that my gt4088 is bolted to. If you haven\'t already I\'d change the fuel filter. Mine hadn\'t been changed ever it appears as I was maxing out the injectors (850prim 1600 Sec) @1.1bar. Now run 1bar but with a new filter max I hit is 75%. Come the spring going for 1.4bar :)

was it mapped at on the road or on the dyno, thats the turbo im looking at but not sure if it will hit the power numbers i want, do you know what power your making?
On lee\'s car with 850 primarys and 1000 secondaries he is maxxing the injectors out and getting 500bhp, what does the wideband O2 say you are running? How do you define maxxed? 85% or 92%?
Car was mapped on the road, don\'t know what figures it\'s making. I\'ve always thought of figures a something to talk about in the pub or to brag about. So long as it feels quick I\'m really not that interested in the figures a car makes. Having said that I\'ve got dynoluicous on my iPhone and been playing with it in the weekday car and it\'s giving me figures that don\'t seem to out for a diesel :). Will give it ago over the weekend if the weathers good.
m1tch as I said the filter was blocked so maxxed was maxxed 100%. so rev limit was dropped to 6k. When i change the filter you could tell the old one was blocked as it was hard to blow through it.
Quote from: turbotoaster;652550was it mapped at on the road or on the dyno, thats the turbo im looking at but not sure if it will hit the power numbers i want, do you know what power your making?
What sort of power are you wanting? 500 BHP(flywheel) is what i have learnt for the 4088. The car wont take much more will it? With it being so light etc, would the rear end have to be changed to stop car destroying itself? Diff?
I have decided, after everybodies helpful input, that i am going to get the Ball Bearing turbo. costs more but im sure it will still give me a huge grin across my face when i have it on the car and plant my right foot!!!! Now time to look at rear end bits thatmight need new stronger pieces
yeh, my aim is 500bhp at the fly, which i think is achievable at 1.2bar with a big street port, a non bb version is fine for me as i can get the full turbo kit for 1200, which means for 2.5k(for aux stuff) i can hit 500bhp, cant think of me ever needing more than that
Extreme Fuel System £377
gt4088 turbo kit £1206
power fc £520
decat £60
intercooler £400
dont think theres much i missed, might need twin spark and w/i but will have to see when i get there

500BHP at the fly should be more than enough for me too, enough for some scary moments anyway. :burnout I have alreadygot intercooler and power fc so i dont have the expense in those areas. Will start up this post again once i have bought the turbo and then post a picture of it, and then as i get each part i will add pictures. Then hopefully will have it on the car to get it set up.
Quik question, does anybody know how much the software is for setting up the apexi ecu for a laptop?
Datalogit is about 400 Aussie dollars and well worth it\'s money.
do you have any pics of your intercooler setup, im doing some research now looking at all over the world to see what they are doing and the power they are running.
Will be also cool to see how our cars compare as bolt-ons will be the same but our porting will be from different people, i can see a dyno shoot out being set up for the future:Giggle
