I had to do this last night to fit a speed convertor... off the top of me head:
remove the plastic trim nearest the door (with two heater ducts in it. It just pulls off
Remove the screw behind the above panel and the screw on the left holding in the panel above the pedals, pop the panel out.
Remove the two steering column surrounds (three screws underneath)
from memory, I think there\'s a further two screws holding the instrument panel on... remove these :)
put a rag around the top of the steering column to protect the instrument panel when it comes flying off in a sec...
pull the instrument panel towards you. There\'s three thingys (technical term) holding it on near the windscreen, these seem quite stiff but it should come off with a bit of yanking (phwoar!)
scrabble around behind the instrument panel to remove all the connections, laugh to yourself as the lights go up and down in a hilarious manner and you skin your knuckles :(
remove the instrument panel! (knocking the rear view mirror off as you go)
In true haynes manual stylee, refitting is a reverse of the above but with more swearing.
The speedo input signal is the yellow/red wire on the center white connection block, next to a green/red wire. It\'s worth downloading the technical manual wiring diagram, even I managed to decypher it (there\'s illustrations of all the connector blocks on there)
phew
excellent mate,... almost make me wanna install a tacho myself seeing mines buggers up half the time....err.... almost:)
I take it there isnt an easier way of getting a feed off the Tach\' for an aftermarket one?
is there a link for the wiring diagram or is it in the full manual on iluvmyrx7 just i couldn\'t see it at first glance but then i probably wouldn\'t no wot it looked like if it attempted illegal entry on me... lol
Si (thinking i\'ll be paying someone to do it :()
PS did you loose loads of screws etc down the black hole that is the behind dash bit are i\'m sure i lost half my tool kit down my scooby un when i did similar to get the dials out :D lol
I used this one from iluvmyrx7 (http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/3rdgen/manuals/93%20manual/(Z)Wiring_Diagram.pdf) - there should be a section covering the instruments...
for some bizarre reason, rather than lose all the screws down in the dash as I normally do, I ended up with an extra one at the end which didn\'t seem to go anywhere. I was sure I\'d accounted for all the holes  :rollin
aha i\'ll confuse myself & not make any sense of that later.....;) lol
Cheers

I think this ignition thing has a tacho output, does it mean it will fit a aftermarket tacho without taking out the dash unit?
