Title: Oil leak
Post by: Dizz on October 24, 2009, 05:59:16 PM
So my problems persist with my FD :reallymad

Engine has done about 600 miles since it went back in after the rebuild & I\'ve a bad oil leak. The leaks been there since I bought the car (soon after rebuild) there\'s constant oil patches on the ground after parking the car up when I looked under the car I could see it dripping off the rear of the subframe. I had the car on a ramp last week & there\'s oil all over the back of the subframe and it looks to be coming from the rear passenger side of the engine low down. The sump looks well sealed but does look like it\'s from the sump or the bolts from the engine mount into the engine. I checked all the bolts & they\'re all tight.

I will try get a photo up in the next day or two. Basically it\'s only on the passenger side mount, the drivers side has no oil marks...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Oil could be tracking down from the filter - as that\'s on the passenger side.  Either from the filter itself, or the pedastal, which has two O rings in it which are known to give problems on occassions.

Didn\'t think it was coming from any higher than the sump area but will double check that 2mor, thanks mate :)

it will the corner of the sump, the side where the start motor is and there is a small hole that does not have a bolt going through it that should have sealant around it. Lot\'s of people ignore the hole and the end result is big oil pan leak. Sump will have to com off to redo it properly.

As Prof has already said, check the pedestal where the oil filter is located. It collects exactly where you have said on the subframe below if it is the problem. If you can\'t really tell, clean up all the oil and keep checking to see if you can spot where its coming from. Always check the easy things first...
