Title: coolant buzzer - intermitant fault?
Post by: suba on October 23, 2009, 04:47:30 PM
I\'ve had a good search on this issue and have found some great info, but nothing that covers what I\'ve been getting  for the last few days:

As far as I can tell the coolant level sensor looks to be in good condition, and there is plenty of coolant in the system.

When the engine is warm (FD3) and I come to a standstill in traffic the coolant warning sounds.  When I rev the engine to 4K rpm it goes off - the same is true when I get the car moving again.

Water temps seem fine from the dash gauge - never above half way.

I\'m guessing that there must be an airlock in the system, or the sensor is indeed on the way out - but it seems strange to me that it does not come on all the time, or when I am on the move.

Anyone got any ideas or had the same issue and fixed it?:Thumbs-up

Had the same problem a couple of weeks back, all I did was clean up the contacts on the spade connector behind the filler neck/underneath the crossover pipe. Its probably something as simple as that or a damaged wire.

I\'ll check the contacts again, the sensor seemed fine - just wierd that it only seems to happen when the car is standing still.:xconfused

Thanks:yes

Mine does this too, it\'s really annoying.  I drove 100 miles to london and not once did it go off on the fast roads, as soon as i slowed down to enter a car park it came on 3 times in the space of 5 minutes. Also it\'s extremely bad driving though the city goes off nearly every 2 - 5 minutes. But this is only when the car is at normal operating temperatures. Can\'t understand why car does this. Drives fine and there is always enough coolant in the system.  The temperature gauge never goes over half way and usually sits about 8 o\'clock.  Any ideas :S

I had this annoying issue on mine. I changed the sensor, checked continuity through the whole loom, cleaned contacts. Nothing fixed it. Eventually I changed the dash - specifically the speedometer, as that\'s where the signal path eventually ends, and where it does the measuring - and the problem has gone away.

Hi

I have this happen for a day. The next day i search on car what it could be, i saw the coolant level, etc and the damage was a wire that leaves to the sensor that was damage.

I made an electrical wire up again, and its brand new, never did it again.

Thanks

Filipe

Mine has done this before in my FC, there was a small air lock in the block meaning that although most of the system has water, the part where the sensor was didn\'t
