Title: Hi everybody from a new member!
Post by: FDDreamer on May 03, 2004, 01:07:44 PM
Just wanted to write a quick message to say hi to all you guys!

As you can probably tell from my screen name i\'m not the owner of an FD just yet, but am hoping to change all that within the next few months!  :p

I was lucky enough to live in essex (colchester) for a long time, during which i saw a purple RX (i believe it to be owned by gary g, but i could be wrong!) that was a demo car for Dragon Autosport that completely blew me away, and a few months later was lucky enough to be taken for a spin or in another RX. from that point on i haven\'t even so much looked at other cars!

i\'m now on the west coast of scotland, near to glasgow, so cars of that calibre are a little harder to come across!

one thing that is going to worry my is the insurance...i\'m only 24 and have been driving for only 6 months :(

anyway, better not go on and on, got plenty to write but need to find the right place! am certain though, that this is the place on which (through one of the guys here!) i\'ll find my dream machine! :D

Fair play mate, live the dream & all that, sure it\'s feasible but as with all things will depend on yer budget & such like.
Also without meaning any offense i would budget for some driver training kinda thing on a test track/air field etc when you do get said beasty. Was always my plan to do this straight away but sadly i put it off & well lets just say despite 8 times as long experiance as you with performance cars not to mention loadsa talent & er bull lol i\'m discovering crashing is more expensive than said fun/learning.......not to mention potentially more serious consequences.....
Seriously thou would recommend it to anyone to budget a set of tyres & all the other expenses to learn their limits in safety.....
Si (learning the hard way )

you\'re absolutely right...there\'s no way i\'d dream of just hopping into \'said beasty\' :D  without some experience first! i\'m lucky in that a v good friend of mine has an M3 CSL (E46) and maybe with (a lot) of twisting of arms he might let me get acquainted with a rear-drive monster pushing out 350+bhp!

crashing...

you had any nasty ones yourself? definitely intend to treat the car with the respect it needs. wet driving will have to wait a loooong time! that said i\'m lucky enough to live in a relatively tranquil place, only 10 miles or so from me are huge and wide roads, and also a disused airfield!

thinking it might be a good plan to get something more \'intermediate\' such as a S13, but that would mean insuring 2 performance cars at my age...not a good thing on the wallet! any remotely sane individual would simply wait a year or three, but i know that in a few months, once i am in the position to pick an FD of my choice, i just won\'t have the willpower to restrain myself! ;)

lol to use the term again FAIR PLAY will power is over rated any how & once yer 25 that\'ll help no end but as long as you can afford it then why not party on
Si (confushious say power is nothing without control lol)

& er yes mine has been modified via the art form that is the crash barrier lol (in a sick sense of humour stylee.....)

haha confucious say Si is corrupting my already feeble mind with party logic!

but i know what you mean. property is all well and good but it scares me, makes me feel tied down and much older than i am! in spite of the persuasive attempts of the family i\'m sticking with the x-plan for now!

v encouraged too by looking and reading all about brian and the rest of the guys here who source the monsters. never seen after sales like this!:)

Si
PS (get ready for skint but fun times i got my scooby at 24 & well was good 2 pea it on sumin!!! might as well be fun too)

:rollin  might just be the best party boy impression i\'ve ever seen! :rollin

yeah...although the initial purchase won\'t be too bad (touch wood), after i\'ve insured the monster, set £3k aside for possible disasters etc i\'m gonna be considerably more squeaky than i am now! :D

one thing that is worrying me lots is fueling the beasty\'s thirst. my friend was averaging about 13-14mpg...that sound about right? also, the nearest optimax station is MILES away, is it possible to run a rex on \'normal\' fuel? or should i buy 4 gerry cans and do a big top up each time? ;)

13-14 sounds relatively normal with a portion of on boost driving & maybe some mods but you can do better if you drive like a jessy......I recommend a fuel tanker as a second car! :D

i was getting 17 or so on my standard ECU but that went <15 once power FC ECU fitted but once i get it back & remapped should be a bit healthier i guess...

although you can use lesser petrol i believe/guess especially if you\'ve had it mapped for such fuel or a UK car or you stick suitable booster in it....
Si (it was that other fellos fault if it goes pop)

a fuel tanker! of course! could get a friend following me everywhere, maybe even hook up a refilling system for petrol fixes \'mid flight\', a la jumbo jets! :)

yeah, my brother was suggesting boosters etc. how would i find out what would be suitable? bet that\'s gonna cost an absolute fortune to run though! guess an ECU remap would be cheaper, but i bet it would compromise performance a fair bit. but on the other (sensible!) hand, as this would be the first performance car for me, maybe it\'s a blessing in disguise!

i recall many folks have a button you can press for switching to a different map for carp fuel & vice versa not sure which ECU or full story is with that thou & could well be talking out me brown starfish lol & to be honest i dont think such detuning would be so extreme as to be blatently noticable although would clearly make a BHP difference on the rollers etc.....
Now you may use the term cheaper but dont think anything is cheap! lol

cool, well i guess the fueling is the least of the considerations! trying to figure out the best kind of spec for me...

bobster, yeah that would be great mate! out of interest, you seen any other FDs near us? also, where do you go for servicing etc? also did u get the beasty via one of the guys here or through a private purchase?

just arrived in portugal for 2 weeks,so the buying plans are currently on hold...but can\'t wait to get back and get things rolling!
