I know this sounds like a no brainer,
I\'ve had my rex for about 4 months now. 60k (miles) on the clock and i was planning on \'refreshing\' the engine and then go drifting. But recently i\'ve had thoughts of just to not bother and go and drift it. (i\'ve only been drifting for about a year)
Now the engine is going to stay pretty much standard (keep the airpump etc) just got a cat back and induction kit. Im going to improve the cooling and do the standard mod\'s to help it.
But with me not using increasing the power...will i actually blow an apex seal drifting? or am i just likely to loose a water seal? btw i\'ve not had a compression test done yet, but i will soon
I was 100% set on rebuilding it,...but now im not so sure?
Any advice is appreicated :)
I say just go out and enjoy it. If its going to drop its guts it will do and sadly there\'s nothing to stop it happening.
In the mean time save up the money that you might need for a rebuild in the future.

i’ve got just over £500 which i have put to one side for the rebuild. (i didn’t think that was bad considering im buying a house in a couple of months) so the funds are there. I just thought i may save my rotor housings incase the seals did go
If you are planning on getting a specialist to do it then it\'s gonna cost a bit more than that matey!!!
As said, if she\'s gonna sh!t a tip of bust a seal then theres nothing that can be done, i\'d say just go out and have fun before then. I wouldn\'t think you are any more or less likely to brake it than if you were normally. might wanna speed up time between oil changes, etc though.
either rebuild now and \'save\' ur housing, which may not be reuseable or rebuild once she blows in which case a pair of good used housing from tim (rxmotors) are about £300.
i\'d go with the latter and enjoy now :)
Trotter - £500 is a guess-timate if i do the rebuild myself.
Its about £3k to have it done by a specialist. However there are only three moving parts in the engine so im up for doing the rebuild myself !
... Just thought it probably wasn’t the best idea to fu-bar the housings...
I\'m looking at rebuilding 2 engines, and although there aren\'t many \'moving\' parts, there are a lot of seals and springs, not to mention a whole load of soft parts that need to be replaced for sure.
Only so much of it can be reused.
I would enjoy the car for now, and save up a bit more - in case you do need a rotor housing ;) :driving
