Title: fuel cutting??? helpp arrr!
Post by: nuki on October 19, 2009, 08:43:11 AM
Any help would be great. The car is a 1995 fd stock ecu ,bigger core intercooler, cat back exhaust and hks air filters...

this doesn’t always happen and has only just started but when accelerating hard sometimes in high revs 2nd or mid revs 3rd and mid revs 4th gear approaching 4000 revs on full boost the car sometimes looses all power and makes a deep "BURRRRRR" noise for a seconds then i have full power again as if the car is saving my engine from harm and i have no idea what it is... there is no backfire or anything. Please help thank you. This has only just started happening.
My boost gauge i have been told is inaccurate but here is my boost pattern

2nd gear - full throttle 13psi which sometimes corrects to 10psi... then when i hit changeover i boost to 15PSI then back to 10-11psi

Same in 3rd

the car only seems to do this when driving full throttle uphill hard.
for example if i am on full boost and full thottle in 3rd gear starting at 2500 revs going uphill when i reach about 4000 revs the car just looses power and goes BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR for literally a second then kicks back in no problem
at the moment i am driving the car still but restricting my foot from driving over 10psi until i can rectify this problem.
Any help would be great. Thanks.

Fuel cut isn\'t a hesitation - fuel cut is a \'removing the imprint of a steering wheel from your head\' eeling. It\'s pretty violent.

It sounds like a misfire, rather than fuel cut, wich could be a number of things - sparks, leads, fuel filter etc

However...
15PSI on a stock ECU?! Dude, your engine is living on borrowed time IMHO.
You need to get a known good gauge on there to check the boost.

I\'d surmise you have issues because of your changes in the intake and exhaust system, with no ECU correction for it. I\'d be a looking at new management - PFC would be the easy route.

ye i am looking to invest although i have ran the car overboosting to 15psi for 9 months every single day as a daily and never had an issue untill now with the slight Burrrrrrrrrrrrr every now and again under super hard driving.
the car is fast for stock as the change over is awesome and wheelspins on the changeover. I was told that unless i am hitting fuel cut not to worry about it although i will kill my turbos alot faster. thanks for the feedback SIH.

i last changed my spark plugs about 5 months ago when are they due for a change again? fuel filter was done 2 month ago. and HT leads look good but i will check.

How much fuel is in the tank?

You can get fuel cut if going round a bend with low fuel in tank, as you need a swirl pot

That\'s not fuel cut dude, that\'s fuel starvation - two different things :)
Fuel cut is a safety protection system employed by the ECU to cut fuel when boost passes a certain level.

Starvation is when the pump isn\'t picking the fuel up properly from the tank.

Fair enough :spank

what does the stock ecu cut fuel cut at?? surely 15psi is well over the limit of the ecu??? are you running a boost controller?? get the car over to steve at hayward north, im sure he could sort it out.
