Title: Boost Cut after Coolant Change
Post by: mahoney on October 14, 2009, 10:51:14 AM
Changed my coolant yesterday, got an air pocket and the car got slightly hot.  Sorted that issue but now the car is hitting what I think is boost cut.  It drives ok if I feather the throttle but as soon as I put my foot down and build a bit of boost it cuts the power.

At the same time as the coolant change i removed some greddy gauge controllers that were wired into the car but these were only for gauges, not actual boost control, and I\'m an autoelectrician so it was done properly and carefully.

Just to add I did spill some coolant in the engine bay but that should all be gone by now.

Can anyone help please.

Regards,

Luke

How hot did the car get mate and where were you reading the temp from?

Thats not good news tbh mate, i would have a read up on the champagne test and give it a go. The standard gauge is the sh!ts and by the time its moved from centre then the engine has sometimes cooked the water seals. This is worst case scenario but best to be ruled out first.

Other than that the ecu may be in limp home mode but fairly sure that just cuts the power at 3k rpm, to reset the ecu simply remove the negative from the battery, stamp on the brake pedal for 30 secs then replace the negative and start her up.

try these first mate and hopefully its not the first one

when you removed the gauge senders... one of them wasnt a boost gauge one was it? if so you might of got a boost leak? bleeding off boost and hitting cut if you didnt seal it up... just a guess tbh...

On a map equipped car a leak shouldn\'t cause boost cut - It\'s not MAF like the old S14 you\'re used to dude ;) one of the many advantages :D

Thanks for your input.  Car running ok now, coincidentally a ht lead wasn\'t quite on properly.  Phew.  Just hope the overheating hasn\'t caused any damage :reallymad.  Will read up on the champagne test.

Cheers,

Luke
