Ok guys, joined up here so I could pick your collective knowledge!
I\'m going to (hopefully) stick a rotary into another car and I\'m aiming for some moderate power (about the most the car will take).
I\'m planning to reliably set it to 200 then after a bit of running in, increase to 300. Thats roughly the plan anyway. The car will then be used for drag and drift work, but be road legal too.
So I need to know absolutely everything - I\'m not even sure which engine I need - a 13b I think?
Then, whats the best turbo for the application, can the ECU be mapped, is carbs or EFI better, do I need to uprate the cooling, porting/skimming/pistons/crank/cams/inlet??
I\'ll be building a new exhaust anyway, but 4-2-1 or 4-1?
Also, prices on a donor car with the best engine choice/full engine with ancillaries?
Any info you\'d like to share would be most gratefully received!

!
lol you dont have these on a rotary.
go for a 13BT Turbo engine off the FC rx7 you will see an easy 200 stock and 300 with mild mods (aftermarket ecu, bigger turbo etc)
lol at the pistons and cams bit, i think you should do a bit more research in to what you are getting in to!
as for power 300bhp is pretty easy on basic mods... a 13btt is over 200bhp stock anyway...
and when you build your exhaust manifold... if you go for a 4-2-1 or a 4-1 where are you going to stick the 2 extra exhaust ports?? a rotary unless its tripple or quad rotor only has 2 exhaust ports lol! i think u are either trying to have us on or you have no idea what you are getting in to!
i think its very late and I\'m tired and it\'s too late to edit my post!!
I\'m very glad a 13bt or tt will do the job easily - so where do I go about getting one if them (i.e. how much is the donor car?)
sorry for being a noob - I\'ve a ex-co-worker fella to go annoy that works on rotarys full time, so i cna see what one really looks like.
*embarassed face*
i would have a look through the traders on here hayward rotary etc might be a good place to get an engine, but there is the forsale section in this club, cars for sale etc.... sure you will find something that will help...
out of interest what car are you going to put it in?
fit some high lift cams, a 4-2-1 header with a 3in collector. For optimum results you should fit some hi comp pistons and if your gonna run high rpm then dont forget titanium valve springs and retainers. dont forget a thinner headgasket and while your there you may as well do the timing belt :Hammer

lol...
have you looked at
irishrotary (.com? / .ie? google it)
they have for sale threads n bit closer to you also. tho imo its more general chat and does not seem that techi, well.. i found more info here :Giggle
might be worth your while looking at a 13B PP (peripheral port) N/A
would give you the 300bhp your after.
u putting it into a skoda by any chance?:Giggle
^ smart guy ;)
Whats the peripheral port all about?
Its really late now, I\'m even less sure I\'ll understand it right now. This thread will seem like a bad dream in the morning... but thanks for helping... most of you ;)

just to give u some ideas... the second link, post #2 is prob the MOST IMPORTANT one to read! :Giggle
Mind if i ask why you want it to be rotary powered? Also what car is it going in?
Adam
My money\'s on a Rapide... ;)
First things first dude, do you want NA or turbo?
With NA, it\'s going to need some largeish ports, and a few ol\' supporting mods - the block will need opening.
If it\'s turbo, it\'s pretty easy, and probably a fair bit cheaper, as you won\'t have to crack the block. The stock twin turbo\'s 13B from an FD RX7 will easily make 300 with just minor breathing mods and a bit more boost. :)
Dont go PP as it will cost you a bit of dosh to do this.
As said much easier just putting in a 13BT turbo engine off the FC RX7 quite cheap and you wont have to open the engine to get to 300hp.
Try Timmy of RX Motors he has loads of these engines 01725 516462

You forgot the 4 barrel double pumper carba hooter!!!!
I know this sounds a bit tooooooo obvious, but why don\'t you just get an RX7? Some of them actually come fitted as standard with a rotary spinny thing in the engine bay.(some of them used to have rotary spinny things and now either have nothing-cos its gone bang, rattle rattle,or they\'ve had a small block

Because sometimes the challenge is fun :)
fitted to them) in which case you can take the V8 out and give it to me, then stick a rotary back in it, easy peasy!!!!!!
I know what you mean, I\'ve built our Grant his FD, next up is the RX4(pp\'d 13B),Mustang(almost finshed)!!!!- Trans-Am -half done( the hardest half) and then----- Arotary spinny thingy powered mini!!! This won\'t be started till all the above are finished(should be april next year) then we need to look for a mini shell. We just happen to have a pretty rare Elford turbo 12A in the shed for just such a project.-When I say \'we\' I actually mean \'me\' as it seems my two lads come up with the bright ideas then numpty here spends all his waking hours lieing on a cold garage floor executing them!!

Yup, Rapid. Turbo is fine by me, It\'ll be a first as I just got my first turbo\'d car and its a Shogun diesel...
I\'m\'a gonna join that Irish Forum and find a local one for McBreakin\'. Light porting and some boost uppage y\'all say? easy peasy, I think.
Why a rotary? Light, rev-happy, it\'s (kinda) been attempted before, and the challenge is fun. Most engines have been put in to them, with varying degrees of success, but the only other light small engines dont develop enough power, or spin the wrong way...
