Title: Changed Antifreeze Today
Post by: David Nock (RIP) on October 12, 2009, 04:28:04 PM
One of my Routine Jobs. New Bluecol Antifreeze every 2 or 3 years. I\'m getting lazy \'cos it\'s just over 3 years this time! But a glorious day so no more excuses.

I do get a bit worried these days because the hoses and clips are all knocking on for 25 years old but I had no problems. Everything was good.

The old stuff was still clear blue when it came out but looked quite weak and aged, (a bit like yours truely), but I soon popped in the new strong stuff at 40% mix.

A gentle test run, a bit of a top up, a little note in my record book (date and miles) and hopefully another 3 years to the next time.:3gears-lh

Thanks for reminding me... I must do mine this weekend before the frost arrives.
How many litres did it take?

Nearly 4 litres in diluted down stage (inc the expansion bottle).

So 4 times 40% is about 2 litres to buy? Thereabouts. \'Cos Bluecol is a bit hard to find I buy it 5 litres at a time. (I\'m pretty sure there\'s no shelf life on it in the bottle).

G8 job dave, did u undo bottom rad hose,or is there a lower drain point?
If we all believed the gov we would\'nt have to change our antifreeze before the frosts!
Parched britain, baking britain, mediterranean climate, annual BBQ summer forecasts from the met office every april & the most laughable, each person in the south east of england receives less annual rainfall per head than those living in cairo in egypt!
If its sooooooo hot here why am i having to spend a fortune insulating my new extension?
It\'s all a big conspiracy to get extra tax out of you & to stop you spending your money abroad in the sun!
Waffle over, maybe you should set up a blog like Ian,Dave??Hehe.

Bottom Rad Hose. No drain points on the 1st Gen.
That was a little worry spot as well - how strong is the bottom tank connection? So gently does it and all was OK.
Maybe if unsure you should undo the bottom hose at the water pump end (cast iron) then push it downwards to drain the system. Lots of top flushing with clean hot water then when \'all es clar\' you can chuck in the good stuff.

Blog....hmm.. don\'t mind words but can\'t be taking all the necessary pics as I\'m working. Distracts my old grey cell(s).
