Title: Not using the powerplant bar
Post by: GAZ_86 on October 07, 2009, 03:27:51 PM
Right i have be searching for about half hour now and cant find the answer,
I remember hearing or reading a thread about the power plant bar pro\'s and con\'s about using it and then gettiing rid of it and just solid mounting the rear diff and rubber mount the gearbox.

so should i use it or not?

thanks

Yes, use it. It braces the entire drivetrain, as well as supports the gearbox. If you didn\'t use it, you\'d have to fab up mounts for the rear of the gearbox, and the front of the diff, surely, as well as losing some of the stiffness of the car.

I don\'t see why you\'d want to get rid, other than weightm and by the timne you\'d sorted out the mounts and additional bracing, then surely that would be negated?

Hi Gary,
I would say use it if you can,or shorten if if needed.
How is the Starlet coming on?
Ready for an engine yet?

You might want to look into what is used to support the gearbox and diff when a V8 conversion is done as the ppf is done away with, there are a couple of alternatives but I would say the best on the market at the moment is made by Justin Samberg.

You could either ship over his mount or make something similar yourself.

I appreciate that but as he\'s said he\'s not against making mounts up. At least it would give him the option of having a ready alternative for the diff so he would only have to fab or modify a mount for the gearbox.

How come a shorter ppf is needed anyhow, running a swb fd?:xconfused
