Hi, thought some of you guy\'s may know whats going on, The RX7 has started a little electrical fault around the clocks, indicators, fuel guage, heater guage, warning lamps. it\'s intermittent, seems to me as there\'s a bad earth or something, or electrical overload when everthings on lights, wipers, indicators etc. I\'m no wiring genius so any ideas, much appreciated. Thanks :driving
Can you describe what\'s happening?
If the \'choke and check\' relay sticks (a metal can thing bolted on the nearside inner wing near the passenger compartment) it puts all the warning lights up at once. That happens sometimes.
Hi, first thing I noticed was the turn signal indicator lights were flashing weak and very quickly, put the wipers on and both the fuel & temp guage shot up, put the lights on and then every warning lights on but are very dim and weak, Seems like an earthing problem somewhere, but don\'t really know.
Yeh, maybe check battery posts and main earth lead connections as a first off. Then as you say, earthing points on the wiring harness? I\'ll dig out a wiring diagram but I\'ll perhaps be a day or two. Anyone else any thoughts?
definitely sounds like an earth fault to me.
Have you changed any part or done any work recently which may be causing the prob?
Does the car start normally and these things happen whilst the car is moving?
Looking at the wiring diagram, there are several earth points in different parts of the car for different things. Some of the dash stuff earths at X17 somewhere under the right of the dash. The headlights earth at X15 behind the offside headlight and the fuel gauge doesn\'t earth until X16 in the boot.
Sooo....It\'s not likely to be all of the above earths going faulty together, therefore check for faulty main battery earth and also main connections to the battery positive/fusible links. Also do not forget the possibility of a faulty cell in the battery. Check this out first by cadging a spare battery from someone.
Hope this helps. David.
Thanks David, had a few crappy days lately, man flu etc. so our lass says,:cheers but going to try all the above

That looks to be a very nice series 2,not many of them left, looks like wheels have been refurbed in the past.
Remember silicon spray for leccy windows, spray on all window runners top & side,or you risk burning ur motors out, mine whizz up & down now!!
When i receive parts Don,i\'ll send u a cheque for the extra parts i ordered,i\'m honest,honestly!
Hope u did\'nt get swine flu?
Ta Stu...:WaveBye
Hi Stu, should be with you about now, and dont worry about them other bits till they arrive and if I have missed anything let me know. Regards Don :guinness
Cheers Don,i\'ll give u a ring when parts arrive, just my luck posties will go on strike now,u watch, probably for 2 months!
Ta Stu:Thumbs-up
2 Months, that would be pushing it a bit...:guinness

My windows are a bit slow, I thought about doing the 2nd gen relay mod which allegedly speeds them up no end, what do you reckon?
When i bought my car,the leccy windows were painfully slow,£3 on silicon spray & they fly up & down with no squealing noises or dragging.[it reduces friction]
I\'d try that 1st it\'s dead simple & takes 5 mins,if there\'s no improvement after trying this out a few times, then either the motors are worn or u could try the mod ur talking about.
I used 3 in 1 \'professional\' silicone spray lubricant,400ml aerosol,the tin is yellow/black & red,the spray is safe on metal,rubber,vinyl & leaves no sticky messy residue.
Ta Stu..
sounds good to me Stu, I\'ll try that first
Cheers,
Ian
I\'ll look out for that as well. Ta.
