Title: My word!!
Post by: trotter on October 05, 2009, 11:46:06 AM
just fitted the discs from Martin (Speedline) on here along with braided hoses and Hawk HPS pads.

Fook me, she stops like someones thrown an anchor!!! Makes a massive difference from having to use the Force!!

i\'ll get a cheeky how-to / how not-to guide thrown up when I get home. It\'s nearly lunchtime and i\'m going out for a blast!!

I\'ve also had the Speedline discs fitted (slotted) with the MRP Hawk HP+/HT-10 combination pads. Not had a chance to test fade resistance yet, but stopping power is excellent.

All in (including tools):

Discs - £280 (Speedline Imports on \'ere)
Hawk HPS pads - £170 (Clive @ MRP)
Goodridge Stainless Steel Hoses - £60 (discount on another forum)
2 x 500ml bottles of brake fluid - £5ea (got them thrown in by Clive :D)
Two tins of Hammerite to paint calipers - £6ea (B&Q)
Piston rewind tool - £20 (Local motor store)
Impact driver set (for stuck screws holding front discs on) - £20 (Halfrauds)

If you ignore the tools (cos now I have them for future jobs) it was around £500 all in to do. I reckon it wouldve been a good few hours at the garage so proabably saved £200 or so.

Piece of p!ss job to do, only problem is stuck bolts/screws - but loads of WD-40 and hammers do the trick! ;)

did you take the calipers off to paint or u painted them still on?

Took them completely off. Easier to paint and put them back together again.

I reckon it would be a ball-ache and a half to do it whilst they were on. I wanted to do the entire caliper, not just the bits that you can see :D

PS: for the record, I only used about half of one of the small tins of Hammerite to do all four calipers with two coats. I got another colour to highlight the Mazda logo on the fronts

It can be done if you just want to do the main bits that you can see. If you\'re not too fussed about the backs and insides (i\'m anal like that!) then it should be fine - just try not to paint your discs with overshoot!!

Don\'t p!ss around with caliper paint either. £30 for a wee tin - aye, that\'ll be shining bright!! Get Hammerite - you\'ll see from the pics i\'ll put up later that it works a treat! :D
