Title: First RX..
Post by: slater1982 on October 04, 2009, 11:22:32 AM
Ok,

I\'m new here as you can probably tell, and looking to get my first 3rd gen RX. wanted one for a long time, nearly got one a couple years ago, but circumstances stopped me at the time. Anyway.

Finally found one i think is good for me, and im wondering, has anyone heard of a place up mansfield way called rotary repair? I believe its a guy called greg??

Anyway, its spose to have been rebuild there, just wondered if anyone had heard of him or not, and if they have, was it good or bad??

Much appreciated for any replies here, cheers guys.

Andy

Welcome to the club andy,

I have never personally heard of him, however that does not mean to say that he isn\'t any good,

people here will help you out alot, first of all is there a link to where it is advertised? what is your budget, main car second car, age for insurance, these cars can be bought quite cheap feeding them and general running cost\'s are not. If your insurance will allow it i would buy try to get a single turbo, you  will have hassle trust me, i wish i had waited to get a single,

Do you go to any meets etc, im near syston, there are quite alot of people alot more knowledgable than me about rotories who are members of jap mids, might be worth swinging by and having a face to face chat with an owner before taking the plunge on a particiular car,

regards neil

I have heard of him, he used to have a website, lives near waddington ( lincoln ) now. He knows what he is doing on rebuilds, so I would say it could be a good buy. How much, spec etc???? If its near me I dont mind having a look for you matey.

cheers guys,

Its gonna be my only car, really dont have the space for keeping 2, (more\'s the shame). Have now tried looking to insure a single, and they dont wanna know so far, (or charge me ridiculous amounts for the pleasure, im only 27 ). will find the next meet for japmids an go along, maybe can speak to some there.
Its currently not far from nuneaton, so although i reallly appreciate the offer, lincoln\'s probably a bit far for you too travel mate, but does a standard rebuild about 7000 mls ago sound ok for five an half?

Unless you have been a bad boy, you should find insurance quite cheap, i would think less than 600 at 27, have a look through the insurance tread and have a ring around,

Phew i really dont wish i had waited for a single as the last 3 newcomer\'s i know to fd\'s and rotaries have done exactly that and ended up with an aftermarket ancillary failing costing an unexpected rebuild. Most lightly tuned twins seem to last a long and happy life if your willing to put up with rats nest niggles.

Now if power is your pleasure then a big ported single is the way forward,

An excellent compromise is a small single running fairly low boost so all the benifits of running single (no rats nest, cooler engine temps, easier to work on) but with closer to oem stress on the motor/drivetrain/brakes etc.

Everyone has their own taste\'s to how they want their car to run some look for power, some for throttle response etc, each has their positives and negatives.

As the guys have said above do your research and ask plenty of questions as everyone is always very friendly and helpful.
