Title: Wobbly passenger side mirror?
Post by: suba on September 29, 2009, 01:27:05 PM
The passenger side mirror on my FD3 has come a bit loose - the housing rather than the glass.

can you get to the attachments by taking off the door card?  If not can anyone advise me on how to tighten it up?

Thanks.:guinness

IIRC the mirror base screws into threaded inserts that are captive in the door structure, so there\'s no real percentage in getting to the back of them from inside the door. If you twist the mirror (as if to fold it in towards the car) you should be able to get to the two screws/bolts that attatch the entire thing to the door from outside. Maybe they\'ve just worked a bit loose and need tightening. Like this;

Legend! :yes that has saved me taking the door card off and realising I\'m being a dunce....

Reminds me of the time I took the front bumper off to replace the rad, and the two hours it took me to work out how to change a rear light bulb (I failed until someone on the forum pointed out that you can do it in about 2 mins...)

I\'m slowly learning my way around an FD!

I\'m so glad you posted this up i\'ve been waiting for a spare hour or two to rip off the door card on my car too :o so i\'ve a easier job now too (might even try it this evening as it is extremely wobbly now lol)

I had the same issue with replacing a rear light bulb for what its worth also :D

If you ever have the "pleasure" of trying to fit something like Ganador mirrors, you then have to get in from behind (ooooer). The bolts for the Ganadors are narrower so they go through the original fittings without using their thread, then you have to get into the inside of the door and screw the nuts on them. It\'s the closest physical manifestation of "impossible" I think I\'ve ever encountered lol, slightly harder than knitting water :mad: Makes changing the fuel filter look easy :rollin

Ah well - at least I get the dunce award for taking a day to replace the rad!

I\'m sure I\'ll post up at  some point about replacing the fuel filter!:eek:

my passenger mirror is loose too - mine has screws not bolts, and the screw heads are shot - no way of getting them off or tighter without drilling them out, a real pain. Wish i had bolts!!!

I just had a good look at mine - there is some play between the actual mirror housing and the plate that screws into the door, all the screws are tight.  It\'s getting a bit dark, but I think that there is a crack in the plastic plate that the rotating bit attaches to that is causing it.  I\'ll look some more at the weekend...might need a bit of epoxy or tigerseal.
