Title: Apexi ECV? Hurt performance? Size?
Post by: Trixta on September 26, 2009, 10:57:00 PM
Hey ppl I know this topic has come up a bit but couldnt find a definative answer. I have two questions.

1. My FC is just stupidly loud. I love it but police and neighbours obviously dont. So the Apexi ECV sounds like a good idea, as I could have it closed when in traffic and pottering around town, and then open it up fully when out the road or on track. But will it hinder performance much even when fully open? Have ppl got experience with these and what are their views.

2. Secondly what size should I get and where should I try and fit it (as far from the turbo as possible I\'d imagine?). My exhaust is a nearly fully straight through, and I think its 4 inches all the way from downpipe. Need to get it up on a lift to be sure, but 4 inches at end, and looks like its consistent the whole way. The biggest ECV I can seem to find is 95mm or about 3.75 inches, and the pipe type (i.e. it would need to be welded), Would this work or would it just be too small?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I have just gotten a few parts for it, and if I could just now quieten it down a bit it would be perfect.:Thumbsup!

what about just adding a good silencer?
im nt sure about tracks in ireland but they may have noise limits like uk so u wont be able to open the ecv. (some tracks even have random noise testers around the track)

Any suggestions on ones to buy? Links etc? I\'m open to any idea. Are you suggesting to get an exhaust fabricator to cut out a section of my exhaust and then weld in a silencer in its place? In Ireland though they dont seem to enforce the noise limit too much. I\'ve heard plenty of crazy loud cars around mondello and nothing seems to be said. In saying that I should try and measure the db of it currently.

It might be a good idea to get a midbox in, I have a 3" racing beat midbox, to go with my 3" system, no performance decrease, just less noise lol

What size is the end tip? if its large then it acts like a megaphone lol

Okay so yes adding in a mid box seems like the best choice. So what are my options? Exhausts are one thing that I really dont know much about for the FC. If my exhaust is 4 inches the whole way, then I\'d need a 4 inch silencer, which I presume will be very hard to find?

The tip is definately 4 inches anyway, I havent had the car up on a lift or that since I started thinking about the exhaust, so cant be fully sure of its overall diameter. But from looking in under it from the side, it is practically straight the whole way, no silencers before the backbox. And it looks to be 4 inches the whole way. I should hopefully find out for sure this week. Could I just get a generic and efficient 4 inch silencer (if they exist) and get it welded in?

i think best to see what size ur exhaust is 1st as even the ecv dont do 4" (unless i missed it somewhere?)
the tip doesn\'t really tell u much about the diameter of the system, i got a 5 1/4" tip and the rest of system is 3" lol

i\'m not sure how much mods ur fc has but i dont think anyone would put a 4" system on a slightly mod fc as a 4" system is quite expensive. i could be wrong :)
